Hey y’all wanted to come on and get some advice in regards to upgrading a new Vader 125cc bike I got. Only thing I’ve done so far is put in a new larger 17T front sprocket. It’s been a nice upgrade, no overall change in my top speed but I can take 1st 2nd and 3rd gear to higher speeds before having to shift since I put it in.

My question is how can I get more top end speed? Go with a larger rear sprocket, upgrade the carb?

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated..

Upgrade carb forsure and I would do the exhaust too. Tires are a big improvement as well. Will definitely make bike safer. I have done all of those mods and have woken up the bike a good amount. Next for me will be the zs190 swap. Let the modding begin.

You will want to get another carb and definitely a pipe too. ,and a Uni style air filter of course . If the bike has less than 500 miles on it , be aware that these things really do pick up on performance once they get 300-500 miles on them and everything has a chance to seat / seal / wear in , my Vader easily picked up 5mph on the top from when it was new .
If you have already put a 17 tooth front on, i 'd add the carb, pipe, and filter first and wait on the 500 mile break in mark before i changed the rear sprocket - I'm not saying their isn't a tad more top end speed to be had by changing the rear gear ,but depending on your size and weight it's likely to be minimal , the issue being the final drive gearing will get so high that you are going to run out of horsepower required to pull those real high geared sprockets.

There are several threads on the Forum about what carb works and what exhausts will fit without major problems ,so take your time and read up on it so you only spend the money once . All that said, welcome to the Forum , Chinariders has a great community and always try to help in any way possible.

I haven't touched my carb and I have 2k miles on mine so far. I changed the pipe to open it up a little and it helped my top end speed. I have a maxxis knobby on the rear and changed the front sprocket. I also put pro taper micro bars on because I thought the stock ones were really awkward.

How’s this for a carb?

That is exactly the carb you want ,make sure to order a jet kit also ,the page that link takes you to shows a wingsmoto jet kit on it .,down near the bottom.

You can use the stock intake but a matched aftermarket would be marginally better ,and of course get a high flow air filter. We are all running the VM22 ,and once dialed in it is a great carb.

Do you know if your Vader is the Gen1 Model or the Gen2? Mine is the Gen2 version and it is slightly more difficult to install some of the mods on due to the bodywork /plastics covering up more of the access points compared to the Gen1 but it is still completely doable, it would help with mods though if I knew whether yours was Gen1 or Gen2.

Thanks man !

Take a look at this thread:

http://chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=22514

That should clear up the easy mods on the bike.

Not so easy mods (aka more than just a screwdriver and wrench):

1. lightweight oil spinner. Apparently on the Groms, people lathe them down to reduce the overall rotational mass. No reason why the clones couldn't have the same thing done.

2. Bore kit. Easy to do, but you'll need to figure out if you have a 13 mm wrist pin or 14 mm. A shop/store I talked to said that the clones are relatively new, so they should be a 13 mm wrist pin. I haven't checked mine yet so no idea if this is true or not.

But... best bang for your buck is going to the ZS190cc or the Daytona Anima 190cc (both same engine - supposedly made in the same factory).

What air filter should I go with along with the Mikuni VM22 Carb?

I use something very similar to this (https://www.amazon.com/QAZAKY-Performance-Motorcycle-Scooter-Kawasaki/dp/B00MUOOAFK/) on my boom. Works fine and lots of induction sound.

Also another quick question. Anyone have issues with the stock headlight flickering a lot? I took the bike into the dealer and they found no wiring issues, could it be a cheap bulb issue?

I bought some LED lights from China that say if the light flickers to call them an order a "flux capacitor". Sadly I have no interest in turning my motorcycle into a time machine.

Do you notice any flickering on other lights or just the headlight? Does the flickering go away if you stop moving or only when the engine is off & key is on?

If other lights flicker it could be a slopy ground, poor battery connection or bad battery (bad drop & broken inside)

If other lights flicker and it only goes away when the engine is off that's a good indication of a "noisy" electrical system which can be fixed with a capacitor.

If it's only the headlight and only when moving its got electrical connection written all over it. Maybe inside the bulb, maybe the connector or maybe further down the harness.

If it flickers when the engine isn't running then you have a faulty LED light.

The alternator on our bikes (Icebear little monster) is not that powerful, you will notice that once the engine warms up and in higher rev's it is brighter and stable.

I have heard that the little LEDs on the stock bulbs commonly have poor solder joints, causing flickering especially when vibration is added. One of the LEDs on my low beam light is starting to go out, but I've only ridden it about 500 miles.

The LED lights that came with my bike sucked
Bad. That was one of the first thing I replaced.

has anyone ever tried a mikuni flat slide carb on these bikes? I've looked for info but haven't found any on flat slides.

You can fit whatever carb you want as long as you can physically fit it on and your throttle cable will work with it. Reason everyone goes with the VM22-133 is because the manifold and carb is all tired and tested. Not to mention is all bolts together without clamps.

If it fits the grom, it should fit the vader grom clone. There are cheaper ones on amazon and ebay that work.

I went with a molkt carb because it had the adjustment knob and the pull choke. I was unsure at first but it's been kick a@@ over the mikuni I tried first.
