View Full Version : Hawk gear ratio
I have a 17 tooth in the front and stock in the rear. I was thinking if i put 40 in the rear would that be too low? I dont drive up hills much but would I have any issues taking off on flat?

It will be fine on flat ground, and if you arent a heavy person it can still handle hills just fine. We have had a couple members run 17 front 39 rear. If you are a bigger guy like me, or plan to load the bike down with gear, I wouldn't go smaller than a 42 or 43 out back

I run the 17/40 on the street and is fine. I weigh about 180. You can always swap the front out to a 15 or 16 if you plan on any off road riding.
