I have one of these dual sport bikes that I only ride on trails. All of the lights and displays have been striped off with only a kill switch. Does anyone know the minimum wiring needed to keep the bike running on trails? I want to take off all the excess wiring. Any help would be much appreciated.

If you have a kick start, you can pretty much remove everything but your plug wire.

The alternator supplies AC voltage to the CDI box which sends a jolt to the ignition coil. Thats all you need to make the engine run. I ride trails too, but I like my electric start !
Good luck

Thanks for your replies. I only want a kick start and a kill switch. The kill switch is the only control on the handle bars. The choke is now strictly controlled at the carb. So do I splice the wires between the magneto, CDI, spark plug, and kill switch?

Adouga,

I did a Lifan with minimum wiring last year, I have uploaded a schematic in my gallery.

I hope it helps.

Excellent diagram. I am having problems with my bike. It boggs out when the throttle is goosed. Could this be a wiring problem? It will idle fine and winds out long and slow through the gears. Would the motor fire if the wiring was wrong?

No, it sounds like the needs carburetor adjustment. It would not start if the wiring was wrong.
