I was curious as to what types of riding gear people use when they are out riding off road. I'm from an age where helmets were about the only thing people wore and then I didn't wear one more often than not. I did wear boots jacket and helmet on my street bike, but since it's been a while since riding in the mud, was wondering if most people wear some sort of riding gear or not. If so, what do people recommend?

I wear body armor on and off road. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075K9KVVC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If you get these try and get a size or two above your shirt size. I needed 2XL even though I wear a large shirt. I also wear textile riding pants and my work boots.

Helmet, armored gloves, MX boots, knee shin gaurds. On Road leather jacket - off road textile jacket. Camel bak.

I took a nasty dump in pre cell phone days all alone in a forest of 25 Sq miles behind locked gates. Not doing that again.

I'm from that same age of "only a helmet", but at my real age ;)...I realize its important to gear up. I'm going to make a video this weekend discussing the gear I'll be wearing. Here's a list for now.
-Bell MX-9 MIPS helmet \ Fox goggles
-Alpinestars Tech3 boots
-Mechanix MPact gloves
-HWK dual-sport CE armored pants
-Sulaite full upper body armor.
-BiLT Auxiliary shirt

I've been looking online at gear, but I think I may have to go into a local place and try on a few things. I'm not a big man, but I've definitely put on a few extra pounds over the years. I wear a 2x and I don't see a ton of stuff online for larger. Thanks for the info though. I kinda figured I should wear something as falls probably aren't going to be as trivial today as they were 30 years ago.

Just thought I would mention that I picked up some protection for riding thanks to comments here. I bought a chest/spine protector, shin and elbow guards and a pair of riding pants. I already had a nice helmet and goggles so I'm good there. The only thing that's going to have to wait are riding boots I have hunting boots which are going to have to do it for now as the bank has run dry. I was originally going to get the boots as well but then I figured I hadn't bought any protection for my two boys and it was probably not cool to protect myself and not them, so they have chest, shin and elbow guards on order as well. Boots for all of us will just have to wait.

I'm hoping to have the three bikes I ordered by the end of this week so I'm really looking forward to this summer!
