Hawks are on Amazon now, looks like $1399 with free shipping and assorted colors
I’m talking myself out of buying one since the Storm is a slightly better quality and I don’t want to have swap bearings, mod shocks and tubes etc etc but man I want that black Hawk looks so cool!

Swap bearings? Aside from poorly installed rear wheel bearings, nothing needs to be swapped, and not all of them have that issue.
Mod shocks? You mean drain and fill fork oil and make some preload spacers? Something I would do for a Storm or any other bike for that matter.
I think you have something far worse in your head than the reality of what a Hawk is. Not to mention there have been Bashan bikes with similar issues as the Hawks. The Hawk is just far more prevalent on the forums, far more active members and bikes than the others.
Not saying the Hawk is perfect, but it isn't that bad either. So many people hating on the Hawk lately, and so much BS flying around as well on other groups. People acting like the Hawk has to be completely re-engineered, when in truth the work that does need done costs a few bucks and is super simple to do, and you end up with a better finished product.
EDIT: Something else worth noting is that there are far more Hawk owners who are tinkerers, fabricators, and mechanics than the other bikes. I speak for myself when I say that if I notice something sub par, I correct it and then notify others of what I found. Case in point would be the head stock bearings and their total lack of lubrication. This is not something unique to the Hawk either. Nor is the total lack of lubrication in the other bearings of pivots.

To me, the hawk equals best bang for your buck if you live in an easy to plate state. There are better bikes out there, but that comes at a price increase and/or parts availability issues. To me, some parts availability from csc is a huge plus.
It all depends in the end on what you want, what your requirements are, and what your willing to pay for.
I have a Brozz now, and absolutely love it, but was also very happy with my hawk. Would easily buy either again.

Now, if somebody would put the Brozz swing arm on the Hawk with the Hawk rear wheel and disc brake....

I don't own a Hawk at all ,but I do own and ride a Venom Motorsports Vader ,and even with Venom being one of the more highly regarded Grom clone Dealers, as MegaDan pointed out, there was a rather shocking lack of lubricants in the front axle, rear axle, swingarm pivot, and steering bearings ,all of which i corrected during initial assembly .
Yeah, i "shouldn't " have to do that , but it wasn't that big a deal and i accepted it was likely to be needed going into the purchase. There are just certain things that come with buying a $1400 motorcycle rather than a 5 or 6k equivalent from Japan ,and that is one of them. Also , it helps I am a natural born tinkerer / modifier who can not leave anything stock, ever ,i blame my Dad who was a die hard "car guy ".
