So i just pt on my 17t front sprocket on my hawk. It has stock chain & stock 50t rear sprocket. I dont know how tight yall chain are with this set up, but mine is way too tight! making some odd clanking noise at low speeds.. i run 70 percent on road. I was wondering what other sprockets can i use with stock chain? I dont want to cut the chain but i will if needed. Just a complete noob here :hi: I love the feel of the bike with 17t x 50t... is adding a link to the stock chain a possibility?

Any Japanese bike shop should have them in stock...ARH :yay:

You can also get a half link if you just need a little more slack.
https://www.amazon.com/4-Pieces-Offset-Crank-Motorized-Bicycle/dp/B01MRC279B/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?crid=3240AUCZ1EJGJ&keywords=428+chain+half+link&qid=1556031914&s=gateway&sprefix=428+half-link%2Caps%2C198&sr=8-1-fkmrnull

Link is for reference. I would search for a better quality designed for motorcycles.

If you look at the picture in the ad, you'll see how it got named a "cranked link."...ARH

The 130 link chain should work fine with the 45 tooth rear.

You shouldn't need anything else once the 45 is in place on the rear.

Get a wee bit longer chain, I've run this 17/50 combo for 2 years and love it. I have a conventional chain, because at the time everybody got Hawk's so Amazon was out of X and 0 ring chains in the 428.

If your goal is to match the same ratio as a 17/45 for a 428 chain, yes.

If you want to closely match a 17/50 then use a 12 tooth front for a 12/35 or a 13 front 38 rear

I'm running the 520 12/33 because I wanted to mimic the 428 16/45. I'm very happy with it, still has plenty of bottom end offroad and not buzzy at 55mph. I think I could get away with gearing it even lower because I'm nowhere close to topping it out in 5th gear.
