Didn't look like this the last time I changed the oil. And it doesn't look melted. Looks like something caught and twisted it.

That isn't that unusual. I did that on my last Hawk when I was putting it back in. The tip catches something and when you tighten it down it just gets twisted up. I cut mine off since I just use the sight glass to judge oil level anyway.

Same thing happened here by 2nd oil change. Chopped off the length and just used the sight glass to refill since. Really glad no parts floated around the gear box !

It was really hard to screw out, maybe the twisting happened then. And when I did my initial test run after installing the performance exhaust it did get really hot. Idk

Most of the members have ground the dipstick part off the fill cap. No good story every started with "and then the dipstick broke off and went whizzing through my engine..." There was a member on here a while back who bought a used Hawk, and when he did his first oil change he noticed the dipstick looked like it broke off. He didn't think much of it until he pulled the side cover and found the dipstick jammed in a corner between two rotating assemblies. That could have been a really bad deal if it hadn't gotten lodged up in a corner like that. So to recap what seems to be the theme so far, get rid of the dipstick part of the filler cap and make friends with the sight glass.

I've stuck mine in cocked eyed a few time. I always used the site glass anyway.
