They'll definitely fit in a short box truck with the gate down. My KLX will almost fit in my Sport Trac. Sport trac with the gate down is 70" from front of box to edge of tailgate.

Get yourself some good tiedowns and any bike will fit in the back of most pick-ups even with the tailgate down, tie downs are great to have period...
the quick pull ties are even better for a motorcycle but the ratchet strap work just as well. just require more fussing around

We use the rachet straps now, I hate when the pull straps get old and start to slip a little but the pull straps are easier.
We also use the bungie trick that I read on here somewhere, put a bungie cord in the steel loops of the strap and if the bike leans or compresses for any reason the bungie cord keeps the strap from slacking up and possibly coming unhooked.
We also put a block under the triple tree/front fender between the front tire to keep from compressing the front forks.
I'm thinking about buying two front wheel chocks that need no straps and just grip the tire.(BIKE SHOE MOTORCYCLE WHEEL CHOCK (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BIKE-SHOE-MOTORCYCLE-WHEEL-CHOCK-CR-KX-YZ-RM-125-250_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50073QQihZ024QQitem Z370027102984QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW))I just wonder what happens if the tire goes flat after it's clamped in there???
