Need to adjust my rear shock

I think my rear end is sitting a little low. I looked at the rear shock and from what I can see, it appears thet the preload setting is right in the middle. There are threads both above and below where it is currently sitting (see the pic). So, if I’m correct, I should be able to set the preload down so that it raises the rear of the bike...is this correct?

Also, what’s the best method to turn the adjusters? I don’t have a “key/wrench”. I saw on guy on YouTube who used a small metal punch and hammer. He tapped the groves on the rings to turn them. Is this correct?

Yes, if you increase preload it will raise the back of the bike up, both static like in the pictures, and rider sag - something you will want a helper to setup properly.

You can use a drift or a punch to move the rings, just use something soft if you can, otherwise you can damage the corners and then if you decide to get a spanner to adjust them later the corners won't be messed up causing you some headaches.

Thanks Dan. I have an aluminum rod (1/2" in diameter) that I used as a punch to remove my wheel bearings on my Magna. I can use that. I'm hoping it raises that rear and prevents some sag when I sit on it...guess I'm a bit heavy...:shrug:

ski, I use a brass punch as well. alum is a great idea.

I used punches until I removed the air box from the TT250 and did the trash can mod. Now it's super east to access. Why they wrapped the air box around the shock adjusters is beyond me.

1- Remove stock airbox. I had to drop the swing arm on the TT250 as I wanted to keep it in one piece.
2- Go to store, buy an office trash can and cut it up accordingly. Zip tie in place. This needs to be done because on most Hondoids, the air box also doubles as the inner fender.
3- Add pod filter of your choice. I don't have to worry about water here so keeping it isolated isn't an issue.
VIOLA! Lots of room to adjust the shock and have a nice stash area.
Edit: Forgot one more detail. On most Hondoids, the airbox also plays the part of your electrical mounting.....so I made my own out of the trash can.

WOW!!!! copy that 2lz!!!! I haven't looked for info here, but if I were to use that air filter, do I have to change jetting? There could be another hose to airbox, I have to go check.

Yep, there's a hose to air box that comes off the motor. I vented it to the atmosphere. You can run a small filter off it if you're worried.
Rejet? Probably not is you're not changing the exhaust. It'll be something you'll need to read your spark plug and do what it tells you. The bike is most likely set up lean anyway to pass gub'ment standards.
