View Full Version : I did the 190 Swap!

Forget anything anyone has told you about bolt on performance mods. The 190 makes it a completely different bike. With the stock exhaust and no tune I went for a quick brap down the street and back. It's ridiculous. This is how the bike should have come.

Update:

I've installed the oil cooler and temporary 'race' exhaust. I got an Anti-gravity lithium battery but I'm thinking about returning it. I don't really need it.

Awesome! Was it a very expensive swap? Even if it was, it sounds totally worth it.
I'm looking forward to hearing about how it runs with a performance exhaust and some carb tuning.

congrats! Did you have any issues getting the clutch cable adjusted? I've been having a heck of a time.

The kit was $640 shipped. It requires an aftermarket pipe cause the stock one is too restrictive. It also requires a different throttle. I used this 1/4 twist throttle https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LFPF1W5/

Also, you will need wider bars unless you want that throttle tube hanging over the end of the bars.

You'll also want some solder ring butt end connectors or what not to connect the 5 wires and N to the existing harness.

@PhildoScaggins - It was kind of a pain to adjust. But, you have to use the clutch and throttle cables that come with the kit.

Funny, I was able to use my stock throttle cable. Kind of a pain to get seated in the carb but it seems like it will work.

In the ZS190 Swap FB group they say to use both cables that came with the kit and a new (adjustable) throttle tube to take care of the slop. I already had a aftermarket throttle tube. I assumed what they said was true.

Is there a lot of play in your throttle now?

Would this bracket make the swap easier? https://www.steadygarage.com/store/chimera-bracket-mount-zs190-engine-ssr-razkull-honda-grom-125https://www.steadygarage.com/store/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/950x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/s/t/steady_garage_mt_206.jpg

If you have the venom you shouldnt need it. Its only the razkull and grom that have different bolt patterns.

The owner of Kronik Racing told me that even with the discount the retailers get from Pitster, Pitster's price directly to consumers is lower.

There is a guy on the FB clone groups selling them now for $650 shipped. I don't know if it is a complete kit. Others have purchased from him in the past and he is legit. He (sometimes) has them in black.

I just saw that guy selling the fuel injection kits for $500 for the 190. After seeing how intricate Glaveys post of doing it himself that $500 would seem worth it.

Oh yeah, Mike Davis. I've been thinking about getting one. The problem is, I don't know how to tune it and none of the shops that dyno tune in my area will touch it.

Guy selling the kit is Mike Davis. His kit is pre-tuned for a zs190cc. May want to check his stuff out. If I'm not mistaken, I believe his also has ability to "self-tune".

You're right. I had the name confused. I edited it. Mike Davis, I spoke with him and there is a 'base map' tune on it that may run well enough to get it to a shop that can tune it.

Is this really a thing? I've never heard of having to do that. If so, is there a household cleaner I can use?

Which part? Using the oil filter grease/spray or cleaning it?

I saw a video on YT showing Dollar Store Totally Awesome cleaner cleaning a Uni-filter. I bought some and it worked as advertised. Using the grease... yeah back in the day with dirt bikes.

I guess cleaning it. I havent added any grease, why would I need to wipe it down?

scoot newb

For oil cutting solvent you can use rubbing alcohol. But don't use that on the foam just the rubber part that connects to the carb.

The grease helps keep dirt and other particles from getting sucked through the foam. Mine didn't come with that sticker and I don't use grease on mine but it couldn't hurt.

Oh. I think they mean clean it down after applying the grease spray to the filter element to prevent a gob from getting into the motor.

Thanks. That makes more sense. It wasnt greasy, the warning had me confused. I got some stuff to fab up a bracket to get this exhaust on. Hopefully I will be in business soon!

I stuffed a Harley LED and bucket into a Monster Eye bracket. I like it. It is bright and looks better IMO. I just need to trim the back of the bucket so more wiring can fit behind it. I added a used Vader font fender. It has a crack.

Some new items arrived. I like 17 34 sprocket ratio and decided to go to 16 32 and from 428 to 420. Less weight less spinning mass right?

Your really going to town, new tires too and good choice, cant wait to see the new rims mounted, soon I hope? Are u running the rear 32t now? how is it compared to the 34t? I have a 32t debating weather to change or not, I'm sure there's still plenty of torque? I don't want to run a 17 on the front, not enough room like there was with the 125.

scoot newb
09-14-2019, 06:37 AM
It's still 17/34 on there now. I am going to swap everything over once the rims come. I am pissed off. My horn isn't working.

Whisky
09-14-2019, 07:41 AM
Your running a 17 on the front? That's a very tight fit. I think going up 1t in front is the same as going down 3 in the back. I could be wrong though. I've never used my horn, I suppose I should see if it works.

scoot newb
09-14-2019, 07:47 AM
Yes 17 in the front 34 on back. I didn't think the fit was any tighter than it was on the stock motor.

Yep so if I stay at 16 on front and go down to a 32 on back it would be the same as a 17 on front and a 34 on back.

I haven't done much to it lately. I replaced the wiring harness and put on some 2017 grom fenders. Remote start and ignition delete with a USB charger in it's place.

Yours looks really clean as is! I took off my plastics and mine looks like a turd. I guess if it wasn't so filthy,...

Reading your thread makes me itch to do the 190. I'm trying to wait until my 125 tanks. Really would like to see how much I can get out of it.

No love for the picture game? Be sweet to see more of your bike. The challenge is your bike w a wrapped vehicle https://www.motohouston.com/forums/images/smilies/secret.gif

Ill try to do the wrapped picture challenge. I saw a similar game on 49cc scoot. I wanted to play and the hellcat showed up right when the game started. But it showed up all screwed up and I never got it riding until after the game finished.
