Bought a hawk change to a vm26 carb put in a 115 main jet was running good. Got the aftermarket exhaust and pod air filter today installed both. And now can’t get engine to rev up. Low rpms seem fine. Adjusted the valves and moved up to the 125 main jet and add 2 washers to the needle didn’t seem to change anything. Would getting bigger pilot jets help?

Check that the choke is not on half way.

Good time to check the o-rings/seals on the carb and intake/engine flange (cheap Chinese o-rings like to shrink over time), air leaks between the engine and carb can cause some funny things to happen also :hehe:

your new carb choke may be opposite of the oem

Remove pod filter as some block air flow!!

Would getting bigger pilot jets help? No. What I would do is change back to a 115 main jet and remove the air filter and see how it runs. And you can chalk this little experience up to that old saw "only change one thing at a time." Remember that, and you will be much more successful in your search for more power...ARH :D

Tuning the stock carb or mikuni or any other won’t work unless you understand things better
Kinda what I’ve said in the past n learning on the stock carb is a good starting point etc

This. Very common mistake people make when installing the mikuni clones. Their chokes operate the.opposite of the stock carb.

Also, as Jerry said, if the choke is on half ir will be fine at low rpm/ throttle, but will be too restricted beyond that and... choke out.
