These popped up on Saferwholesale within the last few months in the California approved section.
There is Fairly any plastics on it, and it has a different engine design compared to the Taotao Hellcat.
finally a street bike that isn't a grom clone in CA
Heres the link to the bike

It rides slightly higher than the other 125 and has a more throaty sounding exhaust.

That is an EGR system that recirculates some of the exhaust gases back into the intake, most of the guys here with the Boom Vaders and other bikes with EGR's usually block it off with a plate, I'm no sure how its done, maybe someone will weigh in.
Looking forward to hearing some ride reports from you!
Looks like a Honda Win .. minus the side panels.. come in 100cc / 120cc...
very popular in Cambodia and Loas...

Very cool! I believe I essentially have this same bike but in a slightly different configuration. Can you do me a favor and post the numbers off the rear rim and tire? I need to know the rim size and the tire size. Also did you get any information on ordering parts? I may need to order a new rear rim from this bike manufacturer. Thanks for the help!

Hi,
I was wondering how this bike is working out.
Would you recommend it?
Thanks,

Me too. Good bit cheaper than a K-Pipe. It will be interesting to hear from somebody that has ridden both.

Tried to start it after 2 days of storage, and have had troubles with the stock PZ20 carburetor since day one.
Today I put a new better quality one on and it not only fixed the fuel flow issue I was experiencing, it gave a significant boost like the other 125 engines.
I have never experienced wheelies on my Hellcat at all. I just assumed it was because of my weight class, and poor knowledge on how it works.
After riding this BD125-2 for a while I know now it loves to wheelie when I take off from stops, even with the stock PZ20 carb! It must be because the riding position is right over the rear wheel.
the metal body is very pleasing to the eye in the sun, up close it has obvious seams showing that it was built with some sort of sub frame with a "decorative" steel outer shell.
It is very light, much lighter than the Hellcat.
with the stock carb I got it comfortably to 55-58 mph
Upgraded carb will push 60+ but it vibrates uncomfortably at very high speeds
the forward facing horn actually gets peoples attention
One big issue I cant fix yet is im riding and the front wheel feels like its going over a bunch of tiny bumps constantly. I haven't ridden much with spoked wheels, should I get them checked out?
front hand brake is able to pull all the way to the bar, probably just needs proper adjusting unless thats normal.
Will drop some pictures tomorrow
If you want a 125 that isn't "sporty" looking in the modern sense I recommend this bike. big + for it being on the CA approved list.

Kool. I would have never expected that bike to be a wheelie machine. From your description, the boomcat is well worth the money.
It looks just like the 1969 Honda S90 I owned a while back. A new boomcat costs far less than restoring a similar Honda.

Agreed on the S90 lookalike,
I was going to be shopping for an S65 (Having sold Blue :( )
and go through the Not exactly easy task of doing a 125 swap.
Well now, Having found out about this there's no need to cut up a classic.
And it's cheaper than doing the swap, Win/Win!

A few places to start if you suspect the "spoked wheel" is the issue
First "True" the wheel if it has never been done (or recheck spoke torque if it has been "Trued" before many miles ago), some "Ride-On" tire balance/sealant foam or Balancing Beads might help if the tire/wheel is heavy in certain spots, maybe check/replace the wheel bearing(s) with a good quality one(s) if they are cheapos and or already have little to no grease packed in them
So, no problems plating it at DMV???? I'm always leery when the websites say CARB Approved. Sometimes that's only green or red sticker for dirt.....but they don't tell you that.

Don't quote me, but when I went to Kronik Racing several weeks ago, they had one of these, and the owner mentioned that the 190 wouldn't clear the front wheel. But again, don't quote me because I cannot recall if we discussed an engine swap for this bike. The owner would be one to call, however, about a 190 swap. I do remember that there was an Amstar 49 (the one that looks like a moped) with a 190 in it that Kronik was building for a customer.

when I spoke with the rep at saferwholesale they said yes, it is able to be registered for on road use in California.
I just need to fill out a REG 343 form and bring it along with my MSO
I'll update any issues with DMV bureaucracy

Dude:
If you are still feeling the 'pebbles' from the front wheel, try propping the bike up so the front wheel is off the ground. With the wheel free to rotate, turn the whee, and feel for roughness in the bearings. If the bearings got damaged, such as by being assembled w/o lube, or by impact(no idea where), you might feel a grating and rough bearing as you turn the whee. If so, replacement bearings are the likely solution. You may be able to get them from Ace Hardware, Fastenal, etc, Fastenal will ship to a local store at very low cost, and they have many sizes in stock. The rim could have runout in both radial and lateral directions, but you would again have to get it off the ground, set up a fixed pointer, and spin it while watching for variance in the gap between rim and pointer. A filled can(soup or a peanut butter jar filled with water can act as a stable base, and a pencil and masking tape can hold the pointer pretty well at low cost. If you have radial or lateral runout, you can 'true' the wheel by adjusting spoke tension. It is not hard, but you have to get a feel for it.
I always wanted a honda 90 or even a 50, and getting a 125 with the same classic appearance is appealing. Unless you do a lot of heavy braking, the drum brakes should be totally adequate, IMO.
Has that been your experience? From what I have read, this is the same engine as on the other BD125-xx Grom type machines. Is it reputed to be pretty decent, or would it be better to keep looking? I am pretty mechanically inclined, so have no maintenance fears except parts sources.
Also check that the tire pressure is good. That designe tread will tend to ripple or warp if the pressure is low, and the longish blocks of tread will tend to wear the front edge and get all rippled if the pressure is not kept up. That can give buzzy feeling also.
Would you buy it again?

While I don't have a BoomCat 125, my Venom x22 (BD 125-11 in light disguise) runs the EXACT same engine. The inspector could barely be kept awake when he was registering my bike. He wrote down it was a CBR125. I told him it was a Chinese knock-off of a CBR. He acknowledged me, but when I got my pink in the mail, it read as a CBR125!
Anyways, my bike w/ this EXACT engine passed inspection w/ flying colors! I don't believe the BoomCat would pose any problem.

I believe Im going to order one of these. By time I restore my Honda Cl70 I'll be way more into it money wise.
This thing is setup for 12v with everything needed. I'll just register it then pop in my ZS190 engine. Lol
Hey dudemantia, could you see what the distance is between the engine head to the front tire fender.
Also how are the brakes at stopping? I know drums aren't the best.

Contact Pete at Kronik Racing in Simi Valley, Cal. for a few reasons. First he is a very good dealer. Second, he is very knowledgeable about Chinese horizontal thumpers since Kronik was originally primarily a pit bike race shop and then he started selling the Baodiao/Boom lineup. Third, he has low prices. Fourth, parts. He has replacement parts all day long, and being in and out of Boom's warehouse a few times a week can obtain MORE parts. Last, as far as performance parts go, he has them and knows what works. If you research Kronik Racing, you will find nothing but good things written about him.

I wish I could order it as a rolling chassis. The stock engine is a waste. Im pretty sure I dont need it to register for road use here in Texas.
Im gonna be honest, who ever has the best price is who I'll order from. These bikes are a quarter on the dollar. Its not worth $1300 so I'll play the waiting game.

Wife bought me one for Christmas. No issues registering it in Michigan. It comes with an un-signed Cert of Origin so make sure you get a signed one. Had to replace the carb with a different PZ20 from Amazon and it runs great now. Also took off all the extra EGR/PAIR stuff or whatever it's called and pulled out the old air intake filter box and just used the cone filter that came with the carb.

I haven't had a chance to really ride it yet because of the weather but seemed ok around the neighborhood. I added CL70 fork boots and made it look a little better. I also put the original carb and air system back on because i didn't have a good way to vent the tank. Not sure why, but idles a lot better now, but did notice there is no fuel/air adjustment on the carb - only the idle adjustment. I would say it's pretty decent for the price at $1099.

Got the bike, happy with it, gets up to sustained 50mph for me on side roads. Only problem I have had is the rear turn signal mounts were over tightened and a have cracked. The signals themselves work fine, but the right side rear dangles loose and i've had to MacGyver it into place. Also, the tax offices are closed right now so I'm not able to register it and ride it fully legal. LOL. That being said, I've already got my eye out for a bigger bike, but for now this will do.

I'm still enjoying it, I've only put around 50 miles on it just using some of the smaller neighborhood roads as I still can't take it out on main streets with the DMV's being closed.
Some of the things that I have noticed about the bike is that while the engine is pretty quiet, the bike does rattle depending on how much throttle its being given and the rear shocks are squeaky. I haven't been able to run down exactly what is causing the rattling yet but I am determined.
I don't know that I would recommend this as a Daily Commuter bike for anyone that has to travel on roads with higher speeds. My main stretch to get to work has a speed limit of 50mph, but most people are traveling go at least 60-65mph. Not being able to keep up with traffic on that road would likely not be the safest thing in the world. That being said, anything that is 40-45mph or less would probably be ok.
One additional thing I do like about the bike is that it is really light, its easy enough to pick up and swing around the rear end if I need to. Also, the bike has a regular kick stand and a mechanic stand, which makes storing it a little bit easier (for me at least) in our garage. I'll try to post some pictures or videos up later
I will fully admit, I haven't had as much time to run down the issues on the bike as I'd like because work has been a little crazy. I still want to take it to an actual mechanic to give it a once over just to be on the safe side.

Most of the noise seems to be coming from the front fork/handle bar area and the gas tank mount. The rear isn't too bad, just a little squeaky with my fat self on the shock absorbers LOL.

Think of the noises as 'character'. Our old joke went something along the line of a bumper sticker we had for sale here. It was very witty and was along the line of "Chinese motorcycle...if you find parts on the road, please return..." The sticker was a LOT funnier :lmao:

Hello I recently purchased a boom a few months ago and did a cafe racer rebuild on my bike. After replacing the muffler and air filter I knew I would need to re-jet the carburetor.
The PZ20 that came originally on the bike wasn’t able to tune properly.
So after finding this thread I saw someone bought a new carb but doesn’t say what specific carb they bought or if they had to re-jet it as well.
I found myself buying a Mikuni Vm22 copy from amazon with 48mm bolt spacing. I knew I was going to need to re-jet this carb as well and thought I would have better luck finding jet kits for.
After opening and researching the jets that it came with, I found it has a Mikuni 95 main jet and a Keihin 38 pilot jet. I bolted it on just to see what would happen. It starts fine while on choke but when you take choke off it’s RPMs skyrocket and stay extremely high. I tried adjusting the air screw but nothing changes.
It able to ride smoothly and goes through all gears as if normal but choke is on.
I was hoping someone here would be able to give advice for my issues. Thank you
here is the link to the carb i bought, i have also attached pictures to show.

Could be a simple as adjusting the cable, or having to cut the cable casing to get more slack. Then a obvious one would be the idle speed screw, back it all the way out so it let's the slide sit all the way down. Set the idle air/fuel screw(the one on the bottom of the carb pointing strait down) to 1 1/2 turns out from screwed all the way in. Don't crank it down when you screw it in, just till it stops. Then back it out and count rotations. Then if all else fails check and make sure you don't have a vacuum leak where the intake flanges are(cylinder head side or carburetor side).

Took the bike to work today, and the mechanic stand lock fell out somewhere along the ride and ended up dragging along the ground. Luckily I had some bungee cords on me and was able to secure it. Driving about 55mph down the roadway and hearing the clatter of metal on roadway was an... interesting experience to say the least.

Can you post a link to the exhaust and the seat you have? I would like to the same thing to mine. Also, when you put in the new carb, did you take off the emissions and EGR stuff? If so, do you have guide for hose routing. I tried a new carb before but didn't vent the tank properly (luckily, i didnt drive long enough to have it implode).
Thanks,

Is anyone able to post a couple of pictures of the mechanic stand assembly? I'm trying to reconstruct what was there before but I need an idea of what goes there.

Got ours today. Brake light broken. Speedo doesn't work. Rattles everywhere. Scratched paint in spots. Sputters when riding. Highbeam not working.
Fixed majority of rattles (mostly front fender). Forks need tightened down (gotta check the main nut). Tightened rear turn signals and front signals down (they were very loose).
Contacted Belmont Bikes about the left headlight switch, speedo issue and other issues.
Honestly, build quality sucks compared to our Lifan's. Kymco build quality is much better as well (we have two K-Pipes) and run better (stock), but they are not retro bikes.
However, we like the retro bikes (have several 60's yamie's). And this one has potential once we get some of the bugs worked out.
Is it worth $1449 (what I paid). Nope. But we already got tires (Shinko 244's) coming, carb coming, new yellow headlight w/grille, wife is gonna restitch the seat with red thread, got a sprocket coming and different front fender. And am looking at a 140 big bore kit for it as well.
Swap out some of the crappy stuff with less crappy stuff and it'll be a cool looking little bike.
I'll race it against our 64 Yammie Trailmaster 80 when I'm done rebuiding the engine on it.
And we'll post our unboxing and upgrades as we do them on our YouTube page.

VM22 carb is too big. The PZ20 is adjustable, just remove the cap over the air/fuel screw right to the left of the idle screw (pry it out). I turned mine out about 1/4 turn and it's running much better and not having the hesitation issue. Ordered jets for it as well. The stock is a 75 or 78 (can't remember).
Got the little thing running pretty good and Belmont Bikes/Venom Motorsports have been extremely responsive about broken parts and are sending replacements.
Drain the forks and replace with 4oz of ATF (in each) and it smoothed out the bouncy front end.

To continue the ongoing saga.... The rear swingarm is bent. I can't for the life of me get the wheel centered (and I did true it). Got it as close as I can, but the chain is slack on one revolution and extremely tight on another. Belmont is having another swingarm shipped, but that's gonna take a bit. Gonna add a 14t front sprocket (13 is stock) to try and smooth out the gearing. 1st is practically worthless and will pop the front wheels pretty easily (wife doesn't like it). However, with the 13t, this thing will climb hills pretty easily in 4th and still top out around 50. And I need to find some different rear shocks. No matter the adjustment, this thing is pretty bouncy.

Updated review, only 157mi on the bike and I've had several issues with it. Going through the Moto-pro seller, they have advised the factory discontinued the model and that they can not supply parts for it anymore.

Have changed both front and rear sprockets. Front 17T and rear 35T.
The 35T is the smallest you can go without shortening the chain. Nice improvement and better cruising RPM's. Rear sprocket needed center hole to be machined out by 1/8" or so to fit properly.
I did notice a little lean of the rear wheel to one side after this mod. Not really sure what the cause is. Wheel is on properly with spacers in place etc. Seems like swingarm and or frame might of been tweaked a little from the factory and never noticed before.
Anyone else have any issue with their rear wheel leaning to one side? I'm thinking maybe they are just not that accurate from the factory. Does not seem to be an issue when riding, but may take some measurements to see if I can verify whether or not the swingarm or frame has a bit of twist.
Anyhow, hope this helps others who might be trying to squeeze a little more top end out of this little 125cc. Been having fun with it. These little bikes really take you back to your early days of motorcycle riding. Truly tons of fun.

It is what it is. I expected no less and got exactly that. Am I bummed. Nope. Nobody else made one and it's a cool looking retro bike. And it's a wheelie monster for a 125cc with stock gearing.
I'll take it for what it is and try my best to make it better. Worst case, I'm out $1k and change. Still better than a $5k+ Honda that I'd be disillusioned with and pissed at myself for wasting hard earned money on. Who(IMO) doesn't make anything cool, even the Chinese grom clones are better than the Grom.

Let me add to this. I'm not a Honda hater. I have two CT90's (which are a hoot). And I think Honda's are a terrific motorcycle. But they are over priced for what your getting and they (Honda) have built a reputation for quality (not innovation, hence the new CRF300L not even having LED lighting) and get away with overpricing.
And I just bought a new Suzuki VanVan (cause I love the styling). And it is in no way shape or form better than the Lifan KPM200 I have (which is actually faster than the VanVan and cost $2K less). Though it can go off road and the KPM can't (which new tires will fix that issue).
I love the Ducati Scramblers, but not the price nor the fat ass weight. I like the Huskvarna Svartilan too, but I'm on the fence about the styling (but I don't mind the $4999 price for a 400cc Dual Sport that'll do 100mph and has Pirelli Scorpian tires).

Yes, my garage is a disaster.
I've been tinkering a bit this winter, but it's too cold to ride in Michigan, so I can't get it tuned in for a few more months.
Upgrades so far:
Removed EGR/Charcoal stuff (not sure what it's called)
-made a block-off plate for the cylinder head port
Knockoff Mikuni VM22 card
-used the stock jets that came with it
-got a thumb screw extension for the fuel/air mix screw
-used the included cone air filter with an angled hose
Semi-knobby tires - links in earlier posts in this thread
Painted the wheels black
Honda CL70 fork boots from eBay
Wire harness for a Battery Tender
Lower handle bars
LED lights - Headlight and rear only
-all lights flashed when LEDs were in the front
Upgraded chain
17 Tooth sprocket in the front
33 Tooth sprocket in the rear
Custom license place bracket
Phone holder
----------------------------------------
I see in one of the photos that I need to adjust the throttle cable at the carb, which I can do by adjusting the nuts at the handle lever. Also, I need to reconnect the carb vent hose and carb bowl drain hose - these both just dangle and should exit below the engine cylinder. The tank vent hose is also just dangling, so I need to secure that down somehow. With this knockoff Mikuni, it starts right up and idles perfectly. With the old one, I could not get it tuned right and would not idle fine until it warmed up, so I would have to constantly give it throttle up and down until it was warm. I'm hoping the carb will give me a little more pickup power to offset the sprockets and I'm not too concerned with going higher than 55mph. I just want it to go 55 at lower RPM's.
If you don't mind tinkering, I think this is a great bike for the money, especially a great first bike. It's not perfect, but I have learned a ton, which I think is worth more than the difference I would spend on a more expensive bike.
Let me know if you want links to anything I used.

Thank you. The intake manifold "gooseneck" is stock but the carb is a Mikuni VM22 knockoff from Amazon with an angled cone air filter. The exhaust is the stock exhaust that came with the bike.

I hit 58 or 59mph, but the RPM's were too high for my comfort. That was before I changed out the 41 tooth rear sprocket with the 33 tooth sprocket. I'm sure it will get much faster but I just wanted to feel more comfortable at 55mph. It's too cold still to test out the new rear sprocket, but I will give an update when it gets warmer outside.

Still wringing out the BD125-2. Stock carb 17T front and 35T rear.
Seems to be working out pretty good so far. Will hopefully do a run up to this place called Sugarloaf in the coming weeks. It's a 2000' climb and about a 20 mile round trip. We'll see how the Boom does. For now this was the most recent outing.

Funny, I grew up in Bennett Valley, and my mom worked at that state hospital for a bit. So I know the area pretty well. I would be interested how the bike does in Bennett Valley RD, I think it would be a fun ride if it could manage the hills. The boomcat is what got me interested in china bikes again I was excited to know that china bikes were CARB legal and ended up going with a Grom clone due to more parts support. I think the boomcat is a cool little bike and enjoy riding along with you.

Are any fellow BD125-2 owners finding any parts support from dealers?
My father has one and needs a few parts. I've reached out to all the places I can think of, but no real success.
Was hoping to find OEM taillight lens and maybe new rear fender, but now starting to think may have to adapt a non OEM part as a solution.
Any help would be awesome.

That's awesome! Maybe I can get her out to Bennett Valley rd.. It would be a nice little ride. Of course you know hwy 12 is a bit of a stretch with people routinely going over 60mph, but I'll bet I could hit most of the back roads to negotiate my way over to Bennett Valley. I will try to put that on the to do list and have a little video of it.
Sounds like you've done a lot to your Grom clone. How do you like it? The better parts support is certainly a worthy point. Does it have enough Gusto to get on Hwy 12 and run at 60mph? Seems like running at 60mph for any 125cc is maybe asking a lot. I've had the Boomcat to 55mph and it seems okay, but for me, its sweet spot is 45-50mph with a little top end reserve at those speeds. Maybe see you out on the road one of these days. Thanks for checking out my vid. Cheers!

In order to hit 60mph (gps verified) on mine I had to upgrade the carb, front sprocket and exhaust and be in a full tuck. And that's if I wasn't hitting a head wind. The engine didn't seem to have any trouble handling it for a good amount of time. I have kept it full throttle 8.5k rpm for a few miles at a time. When I tore it apart to do the big bore I couldn't find any scouring or anything. Everything still looked good.
I am still breaking in the new cylinder and cam so I haven't done any new top speed runs with the 141 but I really like it so far. Has more low end grunt(even sounds like a bigger bike) and I have had it up to about 55 mph without even trying no tucking with a lot of throttle left. From what I hear the powerband should pull till the valves float with the z40 cam.
Our engines are the same so everything could be done on your bike if you are mechanically inclined. Pretty sure it would have no trouble on hwy 12 then. Not sure what the gearing is like on the boomcat but on mine upping the front sprocket a couple teeth did a world of difference for rideablity and cruising at higher speeds.
I actually live out in the central valley now north of Sacramento. Although I plan on transporting my bike out to Sonoma county one of these days to do a run down hwy 1 and mess around in Santa Rosa.
Have you contacted Kronikracing for oem parts for the boomcat? He is a Boom dealer so he should have access to parts.

Anyone know what wheel bearings I need for front and rear? I'm seeing a ton of Grom bearings, but just want to be sure of the size before I buy them or if they are the same.
This is what I'm looking at:

OK, the stock wheel bearings are garbage. I was just going to do the rear bearings because the sprocket hub bearing was feeling sandy, but I pulled the front wheel off and those were seized and I didn't even realize it (not many miles on the bike). The inner race was just spinning on the axle, luckily I caught it early enough with minimal scoring on the shaft. I did notice the spacer inside the wheel that prevents the bearings from getting pinched when tightening the axle bolt/nut was about 1/16th too long. After reading a few Honda S90 forums, this is normal and is OK - just put the bearing in first with the shallower shoulder, then put in the spacer, then the other bearing just enough to where you can slightly move the spacer with a small screwdriver but not too loose. You should be able to move it but it should stay in place when you put the wheel upright - this will prevent the bearing from moving when you tighten the axle. I was able to use large sockets that fit perfectly and were just slightly smaller that the outer race of the bearing. I put the socket wrench side against the bearing so it pushed the outer and inner race equally.
I went with all-balls racing bearings and they fit perfectly!!

I didn't have time to mess around with carb tuning because of the short whether window here in Michigan, so I threw on the original carb and it worked fine. My original goal was to just keep up with traffic at 55mph at lower RPM and it's really comfortable now with the 17T front and 33T rear sprockets. I used to go 25mph in the neighborhood in 4th gear and now I'm in 3rd gear at similar RPM. I bet I could easily hit 65mph, but I'm not going to push it.

I am a new member here and I think this might be one of the only threads on the internet about the BD125-2. I just ordered one of these bikes from Kronikracing and really look forward to getting it and learning it. This bike appears to have gotten slightly harder to get during COVID, but the Boom Warehouse in California had one in stock and it is on my way to me as of today. On the topic of parts availability, the owner of Kronik Racing says that things are going slow and lots of stuff is scarce because of COVID. I thought this worth mentioning since there are only a few posts since February/March when the world began dealing with that. Hopefully, stuff is more available long term, because this bike is really cool and affordable. I am going to post pictures of my bike and the assembly when I get it. Please try to do business with Pete at Kronik Racing if you can. All my best fellow Boom owners. Kind regards.

Welcome, rlich8. I think you will like this bike! Actual BD125-2 parts might be hard to come by, but interchangeable parts are quite easy to find, as most parts are compatible with Honda S90/CL70 bikes. I upgraded a ton of parts and it didn't cost much at all and most/all parts were right from Amazon. If you skim the past replies, you will see links to some of the essential parts I have so far. I've added a few more since my last post, but I'm just waiting on time to make an updated list with a video review.

Hey guys, it's taken a while but I've finally gotten around to starting to set my bike up. She got a good going over and tightening so far. Starting off with basic stuff right now like better tires and wheel bearings, next is 17 and 35 sprockets, and shock boots.
I am wondering if anyone has a recommendation for an LED headlight and an LED tail light. The headlight is more important to me but the tail light would be nice too.
Here are my tires and new wheel bearings. I can't wait to get the bike on the road. It reminds me of growing up and having a 110cc dirt bike.

Go take a look at it and see how it's held up or been sorted out over those miles. Sometimes a few more miles can be better. It's worth $900 either way in my opinion. You can't get this cool looking of a bike anywhere else for that kind of money. You just need to listen to the bike and let it tell you what it needs and then fix it.

I got my bike fully set up. It runs well. I haven't needed to play with the carburetor much other than to set the idle. She doesn't really even need much choke to get going. I'll drive her a bit and pull the plug and see how it looks after 25 or 30 miles. The bike is very cool looking. It's quick and I have it geared at 17/35. The foot pegs are a bit far back and shifting and braking is a bit interesting. It's sort of like shifting a tractor. I am used to having foot pegs and just simply being able to operate the controls. It will take a bit of getting used to being that the pegs are where they are. Overall for a $1000 bike and another $175 or so in parts (tires, wheel bearings, sprockets, fork boots, a handful of fasteners) that I knew I wanted to upgrade on the front end I am pretty happy with my purchase. The bike is funky and unique and nobody else on the road has something like it. I never see small CC bikes in my city but it's fast enough to keep up with modern traffic and I can't wait to torque around more a bit in an urban environment.
EDIT: It's just occurred to me that my bike is missing the front peg set after comparing it to a few other bikes!! Looks like I need to get that.

Also, I am curious, the second I turn the keyed ignition on, the headlight comes on. I seemingly cannot turn it off and the high beam low beam doesn't really seem to do a lot (it's hard to tell in broad daylight I guess I could test it at night). The passing light works fine but the headlight is giving me grief. Is the switch bad, or is this just the way it works?

Pretty standard for inexpensive bikes to have always-on headlights. Most don't have a way to turn the low beam off at all, but some will kill the light while starting the bike to save juice.
Definitely check the high beam at night, but lights are one place where manufacturers save money. Cheap bulbs and cheap reflectors. Neither will help the high beam be very effective.

As of 1981 all motorcycles sold in the U.S. are required to have the headlight on at all times. Price or brand has nothing to do with it.

Poorly phrased on my part. The "always on" was referring to some bikes that kill the light during starting vs. others that do not. In my personal experience it's usually nicer and newer bikes that have this feature, hence the reference to price.
And I say most bikes, because not all bikes with headlights are street legal and therefore aren't required to have the headlight on at all times. There are also quite a few 40+ year old bikes still on the road.

Bike is up and running but the swingarm bent after about 4 miles. I was pulling away from a stop, I let the clutch out, shifted to second gear, and felt the back of the bike shift rightward while hearing the chain come off of the rear sprocket. I freewheeled into the parking lane once I got through the intersection and saw the damage. Will try to get pics soon but really not looking forward to dealing with this one. The bike ran well and drove well too. I guess it's the territory with a $1000 Chinese motorcycle.

Hi!,
I just bought a boomcat with all the main upgrades people have been doing but I would like to upgrade the seat to a nicer looking one. what website did you use to buy yours? which bike did you use to order the part? CL70? S90?
Thanks so much!

Hi, I had my BD 125 cafe bike for about a month, and love it so far. I’m looking into changing the seat to a more retro brown look. My first attempt was not perfect, probably due to the gas tank being off set from the center. Anyone change their seat with good results? Looking for suggestions on where to get one without too many modifications.
Thank you.

I was looking into this and I so far only found that bikeseatfactory.com sells honda s90 seats which is what this bike is a clone of. They're really expensive and I don't see any brown ones so I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Let's keep looking and see what we can come up with!
maybe we can ask around on the cafe racer FB groups or forums?

I was thinking of buying a rack that would fit on a cl 70 and maybe that would work for the BD125-2

So I dropped an order for one of these. My intention is to put an upsweep exhaust and shinko dual sport tires. I would really like to find a silver tank and fenders.
Does anyone know the larges shinko 241's that will fit ? 2.5, 2.75, or 3.0 Thanks, Chris

Shinko SR241 Trials Tire (2.75-17 47J) rear tire.

Does anyone know the larges shinko 241's that will fit ? 2.5, 2.75, or 3.0 Thanks, ChrisWhen you get the bike, take a look at what tire sizes are on there. The rear should be no problem for a 3.0". The front will probably be an issue due to the fender mount bolts. I'm thinking 2.5" or 2.75" will be the largest you could go on the front. If you went with a high-mount fender, you might be able to do a 3.0" on the front.
For an upswept exhaust, probably the CT90 would work. A simple mending plate from the hardware store would make a good bracket. This muffler would be a little restrictive for a 125, but you could drill a few holes in the end to open it up a bit. I'd do one hole at a time and check power and noise, then decide if you want to drill the next hole. Small holes can be plugged with a stainless steel sheet metal screw, if you decide you went too far.
A mending plate: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-3-in-x-1-2-in-Gauge-Triple-Zinc-Mending-Plates-3-Pack/3478207
You may also want to look into swapping in a used CL70 swingarm from eBay, as I keep hearing about the swingarms on these breaking very quickly. I'm guessing/hoping that would work.
A CT90 swingarm might work too; I will go measure mine right now to let you know the dimensions.
220mm.....width at swingarm pivot; this is the most critical dimension
192mm.....width at rear axle
395 mm.....length from middle of swingarm pivot bolt to rear of chain adjustment slot
Go over everything on the bike, esp. checking tightness of fasteners and trueness of the wheels.

Went with the Xpro X25 125cc Cafe Racer or Bd125-2 Boomcat or Venom Bobber whatever they wanna call it lol.
It's actually titled as a Jiangsu Baodiao Bd125-2
Got it from PowersportsMax.
Ordered on Thursday, 4/20, arrived on Tuesday 4/25, put it together in a few hours by myself. Bill of sale arrived Thursday 4/27, went to DMV Express to get it registered and that cost $250
Did get insurance on it for a whopping $4/mth from State Farm!!
Took it around the neighborhood.
Won't run with stock carb without chock!
I like the style and looks but I do notice the front suspension does not feel like it has correct fluid as it bounces all over the place and I didn't feel comfortable going over 35 mph

I'm having same luck with stock carb.
Which did you switch too?

For the 125cc a NIBBI PE26 would be good. You can get the stack carb to work better just by installing the right size jets and fine tuning the idle mixture.

I ordered this x-pro 125cc cafe cruiser from powersportsmax 2 days ago. It hasn't shipped yet but im hoping it arrives in one piece. I have no motorcycle experience or even a license and im not very mechanically inclined so this is gonna be a fun experience. But i always wanted a motorcycle and i got very jealous when my neighbor got a motorcycle and i don't. Im really hoping it arrives with no major damage. Also, i have a question what hour did your motorcycle arrive? im a little worried it might arrive after im done with my vacation. Hopefully it arrives by 8/28 if not then im gonna have to have it delivered in the afternoon at some point.

Where can i get the plate that closes this off. I could cut off the pipe near the head and pinch it closed or cap it but there is a neat block-off cover available somewhere.

I will be removing the device on the left side of engine and the one on the right side of the frame.
Is there a video that shows what to do with the various hoses? I find some but they are sketchy.
Does anyone know where I can get a block-off plate for where the egr attaches to the lower front of the engine?
Also, I think the manifold front and rear of the carb has two hose connectors that will need to be capped off (correct?). Any neat-looking solutions?
Will the tank vent need some sort of filter or can its hose just dangle?

I bought one of these a few months ago.
When it arrives you need to uncrate it. The shipping cage has a lot of 10mm bolts. I set up my drill/driver with a 10mm socket and it went fast.
Assembling it is easy if you've worked on cars or bikes. You install the front fender and wheel/tire, turn indicators, mirrors, footpeg assembly, battery, I forget what else. Everything's metric. There are lots of how to videos out there.
Install a quality spark plug. A suitable plug is NGK CR7HSA, amazon.com/dp/B000CSIRXW
Do an initial oil change.
Ride it gently and don't use full throttle or high rpm's for at least 100 miles. Do another oil change in 100 miles or so.
Check and adjust chain tension often in the first 100 miles. (Chains don't "stretch", they wear, and cheap chains have a lot of initial wear-in.)
You'll want to go to a 17 tooth sprocket, amazon.com/dp/B010UQJ4R8
I installed a small LED tail light cause I thought it looked better, amazon.com/gp/product/B095M14TN6. I had to do a solder connection, it didn't just plug in. The headlight is already LED.
Don't worry about doing the emissions system delete right away, although the bike looks a lot cleaner when you do. I made my own block off plate. You also need to plug a couple of vacuum lines and a vent line coming off the gas tank.
Good luck and have fun.
I also replaced the heel/toe shifter with a toe shifter, amazon.com/Motoparty-Shifter-Replacement-CB125S-CB350F/dp/B09K3RDF5P

It's not out of date. It's just the BD125 isn't that popular mainly due to cost/performance/quality, I agree it has a charm though. But that's not to say there isn't relevant information already posted here that could help. if your use search BD125 there's a decent number of results.
