Is there a downside to disconnecting this system from the wiring harness? It’s parasitic and drains the battery over time. I don’t need it so was thinking of just taking it out.

If you will not need this feature, disconnecting it is an option but if you are just concerned about the small parasitic drain it has but think you really would rather have it hooked up just in case then you may want something like this battery maintainer. You hook the pig tail up to the battery and leave it connected and it sits outside of the bike wherever you place it, so when you park the bike just hook it up to the pigtail on the maintainer and let it do its thing. Of course not everyone has a garage or an outlet close by but if it works for you it's another option.

The mrs, who is way smarter than I, (I am too old school, we didn't have battery maintainers back in the day) has the battery maintainer on almost all our machines. Keeps from buying batteries as she says.

Good point herbie, thanks! I didn't know the harbor company had them.

I use the HF Solar powered charging panel for the ATV and UTV to maintain the batteries. I place the panels on the roof of the shed and they will keep the batteries charged.

I would like to do that but being from Maine I generally keep a foot or two of snow on the top of my shed LOL
