I have a herald scrambler that i love, but i want more power than the 125cc motor can give me.

Im thinking it would be possible to do a 250cc engine swap.

i have a few questions:

is the bolt pattern likely to align with a different engine?

what 250cc engines are good and available to buy on they're own?

can i buy an engine as a kit with the throttle and clutch included?

has anyone done something similar with success?

cheers for any info!

Welcome aboard! Should be a direct swap. A CG250 is basically a CG125 with a big bore kit.

Edit: After taking a closer look this looks to be a Suzuki clone engine. Please post pictures of the engine.

Another option would be to go with CB250 OHC with a 6 speed. The kit will include everything you need including a harness. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Loncin-250CC-air-cooled-engine-balance-shaft-6-gears-with-wiring-hardness/254354276250?_trkparms=aid%3D888008%26algo%3DDISC. Nice looking bike. That's a clone of the Suzuki GN engine. I'm not sure on the mount locations will line up or not. Note the starter is located on the front of the engine VS the rear like the CG and CB engines. But anything is possible with a little fabrication.

Suzuki clone would indicate Qingqi/Pioneer OEM. You have several brands whose OEM is Qingqi or Pioneer in the UK. They make 200 and 250 engines and the beauty is the engines use actual Suzuki parts.

Absolutely love the Herald retro bikes but can't get them here in the US. These were offered with the same drivetrain as my SSR Xf250 which is a based on Suzuki GN250 design. If you google the GN250 motor you will actually see pictures of the Herald Scrambler equipped with it stock. Since that was an OEM option I suspect that would be the most straightforward swap. Sinnis and Pulse also sold bikes with this motor.

Pioneer/Qingqi also makes a great 200cc Suzuki based motor as well.

Not sure how much they have in common, except the the CCW bikes use a CG type motor and have more in common with the CSC SG250. The Herald bikes come from Pioneer/Qingqi and use Suzuki designs.
