I had posted some information about the bike I had been planning to get in a post about what tools would have been needed to assemble the bike.

I actually found out that right accross the street from the shipping company was a motocycle repair shop and this being China means it would cost next to nothing to assemble the bike.

Due to the fact that the bike was extremely late in arriving I was quite upset with the factory and let the company know through several phone calls over the past two weeks. To save face the factory ended up sending me one of the jungle green camo bikes. These are the bikes the factory is not really supposed to sell and they told me the only reason I was able to get the bike is beacuse the factory wanted to do something to aid their apology

Pics and more to come later

Sorry about the short post earlier. I was having trouble uploading the pictures.

My first impressions of the bike is it seems to be really well built for a Chinese bike. The frame protects the engine well and the quality of the parts is impressive for a bike at this price.

The gas tank is huge as are the racks. The seat is wide and comfortable and should help me eat up loats of Chinese roads.

The suspension is great and there is a ton of ground clearance.

This bike is big and tall. I am 6' and have a 31" inseam and am just on the balls of my feet when on the bike. Here are some pics. More to come when the weather clears up.

Cool bike...I really like the camo...

Could you take a few close up pictures of the Engine guard/foot protector. I think I am going to have a welder friend of mine build me something like those...Unless someone knows where I can buy some to fit my 200cc

The engine guards are part of the frame on this bike. The engine isn't a stressed member like a lot of China bikes. But I'll take some pics tomorrow.

I like it too. Havent seen a shock/spring combo like those on the rear. I guess it is for longer travel without coilbinding.

Congrats!

I like the perimeter frame and that the sidepanels appear to snap into the grommets like a honda.

Shineray looks to build a decent bike.

Once again, US consumers are deprived of the really good stuff. By the way, both the front and the rear racks are things I wish for my bike.

The company knew I liked the camo because I had tried to order it before. There aren't really a lot of people buying these bikes in China and it is easy to remember that the one white guy who has been waiting for his bike for 7 weeks might be a little angry.

The bike was built with the twin shocks in an attempt to make it more durable for use as a military bike. The bike also has a second CDI system that is there just incase the primary fails. This bike was built for the army and is designed to make it to its intended destination. Hense the 5.6 gallon fuel tank and the big racks.

As for the suspension being and older design it really doesn't make any difference on a bike that isn't going to be jumped a lot or beat to shit. I bought the bike to ride around China not as a pit bike or hobby. The fact it has less plastic on it is a good thing as there is less crap to break.

I'll post some more detailed pics of the switch gear, tank, frame, engine, brakes, etc... later today

Cool looking bike Mike, awesome that they got you the camo colored one you originally wanted, hopefully you have some good time off coming up to go exploring with that thing :) (since they made you miss the other time off by delaying the bike)

Nice bike.

Wear a helmet when you ride.

And don't listen to people who obviously know nothing about bikes when they say things about how "old" it looks.

I know that Carl is far away, and China is a big country, but now you can put that 5.6 gallon tank to use, and meet up with him.

As far as apologizing for the mud, that is not mud, it's character! 8)

Thanks for the pics, and keep em coming!

No roblems as of yet. The bike so far has been great. Yesterday the road I was on was probably the worst road I have ever ridden and the bike handled it with no problem.

In a few of the pics you can see the smoke from the slash and burn agriculture that is going on there. People burnthe vegetation to make the soil more fertile for the next group of crops to be planted. It was really crazy riding up a mountain that was on fire.

03-30-2008, 07:31 PM
Is gasoline expensive there?

Never, ever, apologize for mud. Ever.

I love the look. It reminds me of an Armstrong.

I think they would sell well in North America.

Suprsignet
03-30-2008, 07:45 PM
gas insn't expensive here compared with most other places in the world. for 93 octane I pay about $0.80/L

03-30-2008, 09:37 PM
we americans whine about how high gas costs here. making a comparison of our income vs our fuel prices to the chinese income vs their fuel prices it seems we pay substantially less for our fuel. someone figure this out. the GDP there is about 5000 and ours is about 45000...we pay about 4.00 for a gallon of gas...there its about .80/litre. might be like comparing apples to oranges but it is worth of some consideration. I gonna figure this out.

BTW the countryside looks amazing. You must be on a great adventure to be immersed in another nations culture. I envy you man. Keep riding.

Jim
03-30-2008, 09:53 PM
I believe in Canada gas is more expensive then in the US too. But you do have a good point about that too.

Anyways, I agree with the others, don't apologize about the mud, it should come stock ;)

Suprsignet
03-30-2008, 10:45 PM
The CLI (cost of living index) is much lower here in China. Gas is pricey compared to other things but the low cost of other things balance the higher cost of the fuel out.

I should mention that things like motorcycles are a huge luxury item here for most people and a lot of people can't even imagine of getting a bike that costs about $500 USD.

If anyone is interested in reading the ride report about my weekend I've uploaded it to advrider. Here is the link...

I wish that bike were available over here. Gonna check out the ride report. I too agree...the mud adds character. the bike looks very sturdy.

edit: Just read the ride report. Great! love the scenery and the bike looks amazing. i am green with envy but also glad to get a glimpse into your world. i hope you do some more ride reports. puts a smile on the face.

take care.

This bike has to be the best looking china bike out there.

If people were really intersted in getting the bike in the states I could takl to the factory about doing a group buy. IE. fill one container and import them yourselves. I don't know anything about bringing bikes into the states though.

One container would hold about 50 bikes. The bike and motor would need DOT and EPA certified up to current regulations if it isn't already. Be sure to ship plenty of parts too. :)

That said, cool bike. Nice big gas tank for plenty of long distance stuff. Will comment on your ADV thread.

I talked to the factory today. They said if you're interested in the bike you can order it though any Shineray Country office and the bike will be shipped to you.

I'm still waiting to get some more information about the details about how to do it.

If you kept the price close to what the others are going for, you would sell them (50) in less than a month. And they might let you have the camo ones if they're going out of China. That would be nice. I was planning on a Komoto 250, but now I'm gonna wait to see about these Shinerays. If that thing had a 250 I'd send ya a check today!
