Hi all, does any one know of a small after market tachometer that I can mount upon my dash cluster? I kneed to know the rpm on this bike. I've read that the idle rpm should be 1500, the red line is 7500, it's hard to judge if I'm overreving the engine. I'm not pushing the motor hard, still breaking it in.
Still it's handy to have a tachometer, I'm still trying to tune my carb. It feels like it stops pulling at the top of the revs, but I don't know how far I'm revving it out.
Thanks
Christopher

Chris,
I have this one from EBAY
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Lawnmower-Generator-Digital-Tachometer-Tach-Hour-Meter-w-RPM-Recall/122339305964?hash=item1c7bfda9ec:g:oxQAAOSwyP5aTdc w
I only use it to set my idle, I do not have it mounted to the cluster, however it has 2 mounting holes, so if you are clever with some homemade brackets, you can make it work easy.
This exact one was $10 last year when I bought it, looks like it went up in price from Coronainflation.

Merlin how did you pin it out to connect?
Any pics?

Some cheap tachs have significant lag. Good for slow revving farm motors, or steady state readings on highway.

Some old timing lights or dwell meters have a tacho for that reason
Take a look see around for something old quality used

I'll see if I can take a pic today. As I remember it it was an easy hook up but I don't remember what wire I taped. I like the analog tacs as I don't have to read the numbers I can just glance at the needle and know where Iam with the rpm's.

Thanks Mer... that is why I am asking, I can see myself mounting the old school one ) rather than digital ).
Hope you can snap a pic or describe the connection.
Thanks bud!

Hey Merlin - bumping this back up to see if you have any wiring tips or diagrams for that analog tach?
