2005 Yumbo Dakar

I just picked one of these up. It runs and drives ok. Speedo is WAAAAAAAY off. Gas cap leaks like crazy. Dropped it and lost about 1/2 gallon within 15 seconds.

1st and second are just about indistinguishable.
You shift down which is throwing me off. I can't find anything about it.




I did some a random link that said it was a rebadged lifan 200gy but I couldn't find anymore than that.
I want to get a bigger gas tank, replace the headlight assembly, and get the right speedo/dash for it.

Back in the 'early days' of Chinese motorcycles and yours even dates prior to Chinariders pretty much every dual-sport bike was a rebadged Shineray, Lifan, or Zongshen. I remember the Yumbo brand, but not many, if any, members had one, so even someone around as long as me cannot point you in the right direction. I do believe they were a predominantly south of the border brand. That being said, many parts interchanged from that era across brands, so you should be able to substitute Zongshen parts, or Shineray, or Lifan--whatever you can find should be able to work. There is a member around who has a 2006 Roketa which was a Shineray OEM.

So I took the bike out onto the trails. I may have jumped it a couple times.

On the way back I noticed that my battery was over there on the ground.

Apparently I broke the battery box during a jump and my battery tumbled off to find a mate.

The location they chose to put the battery is terrible.

As I plan to hit the trails many many more times I decided to build a steel battery box.

I used the stocker for rough measurements and got to work.

All that's left is make the strap to hold the battery in place. I need to pick up some thin strips of steel tomorrow. I'll weld one end on and use a bolt on the other end.
