Can anyone give me the dimensions of the bolts used to replace the engine bolts? I would rather not do any drilling but would like a good fit. My bike is an 06 lf200gy-2. Thanks.

motohillbilly,

I just replaced all the bolts in one bike and about to do the other. I have a 163fml engine in a Shineray 200cc bike so I don't know if this differs from yours but here is what I did.

Some of these are JUST a bit longer or shorter but all worked great. I sourced all of these from Ace Hardware except the 5" bottom ones which came from Lowes. My Ace doesn't carry grade 8 bolts longer than 4". All of these got washers and locking washers as well as blue loctite.

I also replaced the handle bar and control bolts with these;

I like stainless allen bolts better that the crap that came on the bike, I have replaced almost all of the bolts I deemed critical with either grade 8 or hardened stainless allen bolts. I hope this helps in your great China bike adventure.

Hey great reply, I got real excited..... Then I realized that my topbolt is around 9 inches long. I dont think we are bolted the same. You know someone has these numbers Im sure. Thanks Again. Matt

motohillbilly,

Do you have pics of your motor setup? Here's mine.

The only bolt I have thats anywhere near 9" long that is near the engine is the swing arm bolt.

just do all the other bolts and leave the 9" bolt, thats what I did on my wifes bike.
If you have a welder and some time you can redo the upper rear engine mount where that 9" bolt is to use a 5" bolt just like the bottom (thats what I did on mine).
I used metal lock nuts on ours.

On both of our bikes I had to remake the top three hole brackets but those are very easy to make.

Portez You got any rattles yet? Mine started all at once. I tighten the bolts and it stopped. I forgot to bring the impact from the shop Friday. Im either gonna break em or tighten them.

well.. I replaced the bolts with the gold grade 8's that others are using and my impact gun snaps them on the lowest setting like nothing so im forced to tighten by hand. I know my gun is 950 FT LBS in reverse but im not sure about forward. I think the rattle or vibration is inevitable because mine did it again not too long after I socked them down and used locktite red. I think its because the mounts are so thin and weak they bend and thats what makes the bolts loosen up just a tad, it don't take much. I am slowly learning to live with it unless they come out with stronger mounts and or rubber dampening mounts. Thats an idea that would work!! Whoever fabricates and mass produces rubber dampening mounts would make a fortune on the GY community!!

Im thinking that threading the holes in the motor and using short bolts from each side may help this. Red locktite realy likes aluminum. Anyone have any thoughts on that.

I dont think I'd go that route motohillbilly

PorterzCustomz I just tighten mine by hand and they are fine.Yes the #8 bolts are hard/brittle and will snap if over tightened but you got to remember that the engine case material is only an alloy and really shouldnt be torqued down excessively.(I'd be afraid of crushing the case)

I think having the bolts sized right for the holes is the key more than anything and then a good quality bolt tightened down.
(I'd guess 40-60FT-LBS or so but I'm just guessing on the torque)

your right, the case is made out of cheap alloy thats why I don't want to sock them too hard. Even if it does not break you can put more pressure on one spot in the case and you can cause a leak in the gaskets. All we need is rubber dampening mounts, no more vibration!!

Hmm.. that's an interesting idea but I think the problem with that would be the alloy they use is very weak and could not support torq of tightening a bolt without breaking or stripping out.

Ill say it again, we need to stop beating around the bush here, all we need is rubber mounts, who is going to take the time to fabricate them? There is a reason car engine mounts have a rubber base and these engines need them even more because they rev higher with more vibration. I may design them if I get some free time on a rainy day and I can pull myself away from riding :D If I do that I may also finish the frame and make it complete, in general the bike seems like its flexing and I don't like it. I think it may be from the frame being unfinished.

Keep in mind that the bolts on these bikes are class 8.8 which is equal to GRADE 5 bolts. Here is a cool link.
