My shaft drive lifan type engines atv, has some issues with the rear axle internals.
The ATV was purchased in parts and the rear axle was assembled so i fitted it to the frame on getting the engine running and charging.

I first noticed a problem when moving the bike it locked solid, it feels like there is a toth on the crown wheel or pinion missing or warn/broken. there is a lot of slack somewhere back there..
Any exploded drawings or photos on the components or advice please :)
Ir what of the feasability of making up a chain and sprocket conversion, ?? Has any one done this. advice please one any of the above anyone... john. :)

I think you could change it over to chain drive but in the end it might be cheaper/easier to just buy a new china quad.

What size engine does it have?
how does the shaft drive bolt to the engine ? is it an adapter of some sort from chain to shaft or is it a totally shaft drive specific.

When I say adapter I mean does it have a cover that is also the shaft drive componets on the engine instead of the standard chain cover.

Pictures are always nice.

I myself am stuffing a 200cc china engine into a blaster frame soon which should give me a cheap reliable quad for under $800

It is a adapter and will take a sprocket on the shaft out or the gearbox, I wont be buying any parts for the conversion if i indeed do one. it will have to be self fabricated.

Engince size??? i think its a 150cc engine the 200cc engine as more fins by the look of the lifan site. but i am realy not sure. its a CG looking engine.
There are thousands of them over here called anything from Bashan to extreme or any number of other names.

It is manual four speed with a reverse with drum brakes at the front and a drum at the rear, sorry i cant be more knowledgable about its pedigree i just dont know. they all look the same or similar to me.

I will post some photos tomorow and see if that can help. :)

If it has a standard countershaft coming out of the engine then your halfway there.

Now you just need to see what you can do about the rear axle.

Post pics I'd really like to see some.

nice pictures.
I would have replied earlier but we actually lost power until 2:50A.M.

yeah its chinese and if you look on the very bottom sides of the engine you should see the engine numbers (vin/model) stamped into the side.

The cool thing is it looks like a standard engine with the shaft attached to it.

The bad thing is the rear swingarm looks like it will need to be replaced to do a conversion or heavily modified.
The way the rear swingarm is done makes me think you wont be able to find a chain drive swingarm to fit since the shaft swingarm is built offset a bit compared to a chain swingarm.

Anyway I look at it it looks like welding/fabbing some things up will be needed.

you might be able to find a non-running china quad (there has to be atleast one out there) that is chain driven and just drop your engine in and put a chain cover on the engine.

This looks like what you need.
EBAY China Shaft Drive Atv Ring&Pinion Rebuild Kit 70-200cc (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/China-Shaft-Drive-Atv-Ring-Pinion-Rebuild-Kit-70-200cc_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43982QQihZ022QQit emZ350045163214QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW)

No it wont convert it to chain but it should get it back up and running as long as those parts fit your ATV.
