Hello Everybody,

I am almost finished with my mods on bike #1 and am looking for the best offroad / trail sproket combo. I had a stock 17f and 56r on my Shineray, I changed out the front to a 14 just to see the difference, it climbs like a mule in 1st and 2nd but I think I can get better overall perfomance. Not really looking for speed just good hill pulling ability. If I could get a good even top speed of 50mph for the little back road riding I do and still have the grunt needed to pull me up a hill it would be great. Stock setup sucked for riding in the dirt as far as I am concerned as did the rear tire.

I will buy that 17 from you if it fits on a Zongshen engine :D

I had always thought that the GY-5 had the best street setup with a 17/46. I had bought a 44 rear for my Jetmoto (had a stock 14 f) and it really changed for the better (the times the bike actually ran, but that is a different, oftentimes sad, story  ).

The bike could cruise at 55 to 60 mph on the road; without the screaming at 55 with the stock rear gearing (the front remained a 14).

Since you now have the 14, I would buy a 44 t aftermarket (or a 46 t Lifan rear from Bruce at EJCycles). I don't think you could go wrong for what you intend to do, especially as you stated the very dirt-ish 56 was not good for you.

I have a 15/56 right now and i think i could climb Everest with it. I ordered a 44 today for more speed with out all the RPMs.

Thanks Guys,

I'm not looking for alot of speed, and as it is right now I could climb a tree better that a pissed off cat. Buuut I really want a little more speed for the little bit of pavement that I have to roll on to get to the dirt. So I am thinking about going to a 50 rear and seeing what that does for me. I know MOST people on this forum look for a better hwy speed for their scoot but both of these are for off road mainly. Well mainly for doing bike by paint gunning on Earth Firsters. Take that you nasty armpit hair having second gen hippies!!!

Hey Wolf,
I think you'll like a 50. I have a 49 on my newest and it cruises well at 50 with top around 60. Still with plenty of torque in traffic to stay in 5th and not have to downshift in most turns. Even with me at 250lbs. Before with the 56 it topped out around 55. I think I have the 17 up front though.
