‘Twas Christmas morning and although it doesn’t matter,
Not a creature was stirring, not even our Honey Badger...

Suddenly, out on the lawn, there arose such a crash.
I looked out the window thinking “raccoon in the trash”

The neighbors were quiet, there wasn’t a man
Just, the ‘73 dodge had fell off the Jack stand

Thinking chain of events, And no, not the Fords!
I ran out through the screen-less screen door
Avoiding the spongy porch boards

Tripped over a rake,headlong into a bush,
Dodged three or four beer cans and landed on my tush

What a site to behold; the dodge fell on her nose,
And in the process, Sliced our last garden hose

And, there stood old Santa, looking madder than heck
Wet to the core; a mess and a wreck

I turned off the water and invited him in,
Wiped down his spectacles, and he gave grin

Turns out our ol’ house was last on his list,
And with Covid and all, we almost got missed

He’d snuck through the yard, but bumped the old dodge,
Which then fell off its blocks and created this bodge.

All well ends well, (and thank God 2020 is over),
And, I offered him eggs and bacon and a hot shower

He accepted with grace, plopped our presents down gently,
And didn’t even wake up our youngest, little Jr. Jimmie James Bentley.

We walked to the yard, bumped me elbows and then, with a quiet call
“Ho ho!” Said, “Merry Christmas to all! I’ll be back again! And 2021 better be better, I marked you for next year, and also, clean up your yard!”
