I found faster is better
Several feet deep and many foot long if your going fast enough ?
Until it stops is the motto of how deep was too deep , and too slow .
Good aggressive Knobbies will help this out a bunch though . As long as your diggin, you'll keep going forward . Till you stop .

Have fun, and just keep trying your bike out till you know it so well you can judge all that for yourself .

Cheers, Kelly

You can buy a prefilter to place over it.

I kept my stock airbox in place, but now that I haven't really ridden much offroad I plan to get a UNI filter.

The best solutions is to stay out of the mud, but then you wouldn't be having fun.

You can ride in mud/water as deep as you want as long as you keep it out of the air intake.
Thats why lots of vehicles have snorkels(tubes) to allow them to go in the deep stuff without sucking in the water.

This SITE (http://www.triangleatv.com/) shows how much water can be ridden thru on a utility quad and the snorkits.

So keep the water out of the air filter and you'll be fine.
Since you have an open type filter you will need to be pretty careful.
