So I was going through my bike today getting it ready to winterize when I decided to take it for a ride. Well I was riding through some fields and local trails when unexpectedly I was taken right off my bike by a metal wire blocking the path. This was on a familiar trail where I had permission to ride, I was not looking out for cables and today it almost cost me my life. I was not informed about the cable blocking the trail, I don't have the best eyesight nor was I even looking for a cable.

I was going about 20mph and all I remember was feeling like something was grabbing me around my stomach and it slide up really fast and as it reached my neck a weak point in the cable connection broke free and the cable broke free kind of sliding across my body as it sprung me from my bike.

Moral is, bad shit happens even where you'd least expect it! even where you trust there wouldn't be something harmful, there just might still be, so always be careful and look out.

Whoa!!

Who put that there???? That’s the big question in my mind.

They need to be caught and tried for attempted murder. That’s not ok. That’s not a no big deal situation.

There is no valid reason for stringing up a metal cable across a trail except to kill someone.

You are very lucky to be here writing this.

I guess you might be in shock still, but, I would set up some cameras to try to catch the people and report to Law enforcement also. This is actually attempted murder.

I’m sorry that happened to you. I ran into that problem back in the 1980s when I was still doing dirt riding. Fortunately, I never got clotheslined.

Oddly, that's always been a fear of mine while our riding trails. I'm glad you're ok.

Glad to here you are okay. Years ago a buddy of mine caught a low phone line right in his mouth and threw him off his bike. He was lucky and only had to get a few stitches in his mouth. His wallet literally saved his butt from road rash because that what he road on for about 10 feet. It wore a hole right through his pants pocket and into the wallet. He was probably only going 20-25mph when it happened.

Happened to me trail riding when I was young. It was literally a clothes line. Lucky to as it caught my chin, stretched, then broke. Still pulled me off the bike and left me with a rope burn on the side of my face.

Same here but mine was a long stretch of bailing wire between trees, chest height.
One of the punks that lived locally didn't like us riding on the property....that wasn't even owned by his family. He just liked to shoot his .22 there and apparently we were scaring the tweety birds.
After I got tore off the bike, he and another punk friend came out from behind the tree to confront me. He was holding his .22.
Ever see "red"? I was so furious, I grabbed his .22 and proceeded to beat him with it until his young friend ran off to get his dad.
A-hole never bugged us again.

Same thought here, you need to get the popo involved. At the least file a report. Warn other riders in the area as well.

Wow, 2LZ, that's some real stuff. I mean, being held at gunpoint, at some remote location, after that crazy farm dude knocked you off the bike with wire, and then taking the gun from him and kicking his a-point.. That's some wild west stuff. Huge respect!

Not really. Things were just different back then. Now that I'm old and wore out, my excitement comes from a sip of good whiskey, a hug from the Mrs, and seeing the sun come through the curtains every morning when my eyes open.
