Hi Everyone

I just got done installing the same oil cooler on my Venom X22R that Jerry Hawk had on his X22R before he got rid of it. Thanks for your help Jerry, by the way…

I just wanted to post some advice here for anyone that is thinking of installing this cooler so they don’t run into the same problems I ran into.

NOTE: The oil cooler (when installed and before your engine is run) takes roughly 4 ounces of oil. This is just in the oil cooler itself, not counting the engine.

First off, lay out ALL the parts (with all the bolts and connections slightly ((and loosely)) connected).

You will also need the following items:

1. A BLACK magic marker.
2. Anywhere from 2 to 4 medium length Zip Ties.

=========================

1. If you have a jack stand (hopefully) or concrete blocks, elevate your bike so it is easier to work on. Above all, MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT TIP OVER… Also, leave your kick stand down...

2. Loosen (but DO NOT remove) the oil filler cap on the right hand side of the bike.

3. Loosen the bolt that covers the drain hole for the oil and let it start to drain out. Once the oil starts to drain out, you can now take out the oil dip stick (on the right hand side) and set it aside. The oil should now drain out faster. Let it drain out completely until no more runs out.

4. Now examine all the bolts that came with your oil cooler. On some of the bolts, you will see a hole that runs all the way through the bolt. With your magic marker, draw a line on the top of each bolt in the same direction as the hole. This way you will know in which direction the oil has to flow.

5. Now work from the top down. Install the oil cooler first. But DO NOT tighten the bolts yet. Now you can fill up the reservoir with about 4 ounces of oil. Leave a little space between the top of the oil and the top of the bolt hole.

6. Attach your oil lines (and the washers) from the top of the oil cooler down along the frame. (DO NOT tighten down the nuts as of yet and do not attach your Zip Ties yet).

7. Insert the oil strainer and spring into the oil reservoir and use the special wrench to tighten it down.

8. Insert the washer half way between the line in end and then attach it to the reservoir oil. There should be a washer on each end of a bolt except where it attaches to the oil reservoir half way up the line. That only has one washer between the oil lines and the oil reservoir.

9. Now attach the other end after you insert the washer onto the line end and attach it to the other end of the oil reservoir. Make sure to tighten the nuts down.

10. Now insert the oil pump into the oil outlet on the bottom of the engine and tighten it down. The lower hole is the outlet side that will attach to the oil line that has the oil screen (and reservoir) on it. The upper hole is the return side for the oil that returns back into the engine after being cooled. Again make sure to mark the oil outlet on the oil pump so you know which way it flows.

11. Now that you have everything attached, you can now tighten down the rest of the nuts and bolts. If any of the bolts have a magic marker line on them, make sure that the line follows the direction of the line itself.

12. Use the Zip Ties to pull the oil lines closer to the frame. Use as many as are required. Make sure that nothing is loose.

13. The X22R bike takes roughly 1 quart of oil (not counting the new oil cooler). With the bike level, pour in 1 quart of oil into the bikes engine…

14. Check the oil window to see the level of oil in the bike. If you see that the oil level is between the HALF WAY mark and the FULL mark, turn on the engine and let it run for about 1-3 minutes. This will allow the oil to start to fill up the lines on the newly installed oil cooler. Let it run for between 1-3 minutes and then turn it off and recheck the oil level in the window.

You should see a drop in the level of the oil (in the window). This is normal as the oil is starting to pump into the empty oil lines and up to the oil cooler itself. Add some more oil and recheck the oil level window again. Run the bike again for between 5-10 minutes again and let the oil circulate again. Keep doing this until the oil level (in the window) stays about in the same place. Once it stays in the same place, take the bike out for a short run of about 1-5 miles and then recheck the oil level window again to see if it needs any more oil or not. If not, then you’re done…

NEVER RUN THE ENGINE WITH LESS THAN HALF WAY MARK FULL OF OIL...

I hope this helps…

Ride safe and take care…

Joe...
