has anyone purchased a bike from Alibaba? I've been poking around there and have found a couple deals that seem too good to be true, so I'm suspicious they are.
for example, this RE, they want 2500 delivered to me.

no input, huh? you guys are worthless! :D
I did quite a bit of digging yesterday. I found the person I contacted purported to be associated with a motorcycle company in the UK. I was able to find the MC company on FB, reached out to them there and the owner responded back to me. He was able to confirm it was a scam. Not really a surprise.
I'm continuing to pursue honest vendors on Alibaba to see if I can get a sizable dirt bike delivered to me. If I'm able to make something happen, I'll let the collective know.

I wish I knew more about it. I see lots of potential good bikes we could import into the US. EPA would be the only hiccup for street legal bikes.

yeah. problem is there is so much scam on there, it's hard to sort out.
I'm thinking perhaps dirt bike. no registration required.

Some of those prices seem too good to be true. Those are probably the scammers. We did have that one guy recently had good dealings but never gave a link to the dealer.

First clue is any time prices are too good to be true.
It's simple to just buy from reputable online dealers like Venom or from a local shop. I have several Chinabike dealerships within 75 miles. One is only about 8 miles away, an HD shop that also sells CFMotos. the other two are more about offroad bikes. Prices about the same as ordering from online. One dealer was selling the X-pect for $100 less than Venom! The KP Mini, $100 more IIRC.

My concern would be that even if it isn't imported for registration on the street, you still might have problems getting it through customs. I would see if you can contact an importer of vehicles for getting their opinion, my guess is that it would probably be more paperwork than it would be worth, even if you save a couple of hundred and aren't planning on registering it for the street. I'm not sure that the feds would see it as any different than trying to import a street legal one, and I imagine that there would be a 50/50 chance of it getting confiscated unless all of your ducks were in a row.

No one is gonna sell that bike for $1K. A fool and his money are soon parted.

I think get one bike in a create will probably go right through customs. A container full would probably be searched.

started researching a different site as well. prices seem to be more in line and visibility to people and their companies are better.

Even off road equipment like a lawnmower has to pass certain EPA minimum standards in order to be sold or imported ,and from what I understand as the importer you would be on the hook to pass your new bike through that process .I sure hope I am completely wrong .That guy that showed up here a month or so back that imported a strange bike would be good to talk to for info .
