Someone once told me about the the new model china bikes coming out with ABS. Yeah sure, I thought. But what is this in the picture?

So, are you saying it is ABS?
Not my photo's, simply linking to another website. www.retroquad.co.za
I reckon rather too much detail than too little.

It is suppose to be ABS. I have them on my bike. Do they work? I can easily lock the rear.

You can also take them off.. I had them on my gy5 but the dealer took them off before I picked them up....

They make a great place to store air in your brake line. Thet also build heat like crazy and help to cause failure. Mine are in the peg board behind the work bench. Some day I hope to find a good use for them.

I would suggest taking it off. They have been widely used on the China Scoots for a while.. and now they mostly have stopped putting them on, because they dont really work, and got bad reviews by most people. They are just a pressure regulator betweeen your hand and the caliper.. the idea being that if you JAM on the brakes HARD, it softens the pressure to help prevent a wheel lockup. Problem is they also tend to give a MUSHHY brake feel. Have heard of a few times where the ABS unit locks up after applying hard brakes and does not release.. hence the brakes stay ON after you have released the handle.

Its easy to take off.. and usually you can just attach the banjo bolt connector on the rubber hose right to the caliper, then bleed the system.

Our bikes have those on the fronts only and on the road they work.
I have grabbed and squeezed the front brake lever as hard as I can and the brake came on and slowed the bike without locking up or any other bad thing at all and in fact it worked very well to my surprise.

I dont really think they are needed and I could live without it but we have so far just left them on.
