do you know the history of why the wires were cut/spliced

and how much of the wire harness do you have to replace, there should be a plug from each item that the wirering harness ties into, like the start kill switch,
the key,
brake lever 2 wires from that
head light/ tail light
and should be color to match, just about anyway,
if you determine those, make afew jumper wires with clips on ea. end , if you want to go that far, to do testing,
get a light tester, and a voltage, ohms tester, you will need those

and from whom did you buy from, ie: dealer, or private idiot ?
i would do one wire at a time .
this will take time dont get frustrated ,
i would go get a book on wiring repair manual from a dealer (one of the big brand name) on say a suzuki, or honda these seem to follow those makes, that might help alot

post any pics as you go thru this maybe i can match up a plug or two from one of mine or someone else from here might be able to spot a wire plug and help as well

good luck army dude :)

i got it from a private sale i am not sure of the real reason why everything is cut and spliced the guy had said that it was missing a control box i asked if he meant a cdi he said no he said it connected to the wires coming out of the tranny i did a vin decoder had a police friend run the vin came up with unknown make and model it did say it was a 2005 china origin factory t and 395 of theassembly line the check digit was invalid but i really cant find out much more it looks like a tao tao ata250 but i am not very up on the chinese models i have 8 connectors that are on the original harness and i have a brand new harness from kazuma for a 250cc what are your thoughts do you think i can make something work
2 cdi
1 rear lights
1 start solenoid
1 magnito
2 left handle bar
1 front brake the rest are loose

DesertDog

wow what a mess
sorry ?
i'm not sure on this but the thats the first i've heard of a cdi with only 2 wires, common is 5 pins, some 6 pins and few 4 pins but not 2 pin.

yes you can make it work it will be awhile tho from the sounds of it. just be patient ,
and is there a rectifier is that what he said is missing??

make sure you log every tested wire ?

I think he means 2 connectors for the CDI and not 2 wires.

yes my mistake those are connectors two connecters to the cdi one is 5 pin the other is a 2 pin i will document this so hopefully it will help others

Sounds like you are on the right track with the new harness. The wire colors and connectors will probably match up.

Have you looked at this site to see if they have your quad parts?

Parts4Motorsports (http://www.atvpartsusa.com/searchbytype.asp?type=1)I havnt bought from this site yet but I noticed they keep adding machines to their list of parts.

Maybe email them and attach a picture or two of your quad and tell them what you need.
Also give them any numbers off the quad and where they came from on the quad. There should be numbers on the engine and the frame.

I have seen those quads around for a while now so getting it straightened out shouldn't be to difficult just a little time consuming.

i bought from them TC , no problems in getting what i needed ,just not soon enough
they did'nt have the quad i have to match the part, but i was able to cross a part off of another quad and it matched right up

hey army
you might give these guy's a call they seem to have the exact model you have

http://www.motorxtremes.com/adultatvs/index.html

scroll down to the 250cc Hurricane , then click video (if you want),
but it sure looks the same to me
and it wont hurt to ask'em, they like all dealers who have a shop "uhummm"
will help ! maybe ?

OMG I see a need.....................
a need for a spell checker.................
my spelling has gotten so much worse or maybe I just dont care to proof read it as well.

OK sorry back to the subject of getting this quad running thru the woods/trails/prairies/mountains/streams/malls or where ever

no it doesnt start but i do have power to the lights and power to brake lights and i have power to the starter so it cranks but wont start that was with the old harness i dont really have the time to work on it during the week unfortunatly but i will check those sites i really do wish that there was a china dealer in rhode island

katoranger
05-27-2008, 05:32 PM
It sounds like you probably don't have the ignition right then. Check for spark. Also make sure the kill switch is working right. Maybe just disconnect it for testing.

Do you have power to the solenoid? If so then check to see if the start switch is working. If you don't have one get a voltmeter.

See if you have power to the switch too.

maybe you had it but the stator is bad and just needs to be replaced ?

have you found the wire from the stator thats pulses the coil ?

It sounds like you can get it to crank over but just not getting the current to drive the ignition circuit.
So I would think to start at the source and work thru to the spark plug.
Starting at the stator wires find the wire that pulses the the cdi if you dont have that then it wont run as it does the timing for the engine.

This might help a little (http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fs earch%2Fimages%3Fei%3DUTF-8%26p%3Dcdi%2520ignition%26fr2%3Dtab-web%26fr%3Dslv8-acer&w=389&h=243&imgurl=www.crustyquinns.com%2Ftech%2Fcdi.png&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crustyquinns.com%2Ftech%2Fcd i.html&size=5kB&name=cdi.png&p=cdi%20ignition&type=png&oid=8740f919030c9196&no=18&tt=894)

does anyone know if you can cut out the cdi rectifier lights and just run the bike of the stator just cut out all electric obviosly keep the battery for starting but eliminate everything what wires are what out of a 5 wire statoris this an option or no??

TeamCheap
06-04-2008, 11:51 AM
From my understanding you need the stator with the pulser coil, the CDI to fire the coil, the coil and a kill switch to make it run.(kill switch just for killing it and safety)

To have electric start you need the battery, starter with solenoid, starter relay and a switch.
You would need the rectifier/regulator to have the engine charge the battery.

team cheap any idea where to get a harness or at least a wiring diagram for this i honestly have hours and hours of searching and am very frusterated with not finding it its a 2005 taotao ata250e with a loncin engine?? there are pics on page 1 of this wiring problem forum let me know what you think

I have no idea where to get a wiring harness.

If it were mine I'd be looking for a harness that is made for the loncin engine since these chinese atvs seem to mix and match things/parts/components the atv model is not as important as the engine is to you.

armyak11c,

Here is a schematic for a 250 water cooled atv by Lifan. I do not know if this would be helpful but it might give you some insight.

If you need connectors and locking tabs these guys are good I have purchased from them.just cut the old connectors off at the end if the male and female dont mate and fasten the wires to the new plugs and insert them into the new locking tabs.sorry man thats all I know!
