Hi!
So, a local shop has a brand new Tao TBR7D. The price is reasonable for me. I like the idea of getting it from a dealer because I am not really mechanically inclined at the moment. One of the reasons I want a dual sport is to learn too!
The shop assured me that they would go through the whole bike and make sure its "safe" and road-worthy. Plus, they said they would work on anything it needed in the future.

Question, what's different about the new "D" model than the others? Is it jsut the disk breaks?

I had a TBR7D, and at the time, they had a better headlight, skid plate, and a hinged gas cap, and different plastic, and nicer ( to me) graphics, and an adjustable rear shock. I think I am forgetting something as well. I heard some mention of USB charger, but mine didn't have it. I have seen people with D, or ones they think are the D version on the Facebook group, and they look like the base version, so they either have changed some features, or the person who think they have the D actually don't...And disc brakes, front and rear are standard in all versions. Oh yeah my D came with LED signals too.

Hi Christina, first welcome to the club. I have a2020 tbr7 in white. The newest models
THE (d) have a folding shift lever, upgraded headlight, (h4) bulb, possibly a 520 chain and sprockets, USB port and since its 4 years newer than 2020, build quality maybe better,
(bear in mind, I said maybe!). it is China bike after all. upgrades are inexpensive, plentiful,
you'll need to keep an eye on it mechanically, simple tools a lil common sense and this
forum is all you need. my bike has roughly 1200 miles on it. Purrs like a kitten.
Stick with this Forum and you can't go wrong
Safe riding
Christopher

Dont know if you got a bike yet.. but he is a bit of a story..

I got a 2024 in Dec of 24. putting it together was not hard after watching Jerry hawk and Herbie garage video on assembly.. the hardest thing was getting the fricken shipping cage off as its welded with some bolts.

I rode a yamaha xt 250 before getting this and while the xt does have a slightly lower seat they feel very much the same weight wise. I sat a on banshee ? 250 and man that was top heavy as heck.. did not ever ride it..

I got mine during the big sale and with the $50 off coupon was in for like 2650? or so shipped to door or to garage inside area..

Now have about 96 miles getting ready to do 2nd oil change..

I did replace the mesh oil filter with the paper hiflow one you see mentioned here before starting the engine.. I only went like 40 miles on first change and you can see the stuff in the filter.. now at 100 or so will do again with rotella t-4 which takes about 3.7 qts if you
let it sit and drip for a bit.. ..

the power is good for a 4 stroke and will get better as it get broken in. will do valves at like third oil change at like 300 miles.

the tire are good on road a bit noisy and on hardish pack.. but in the sand here in florida where we aer some like sugar its a bit squirrely just gotta give it the gass ot get it going good and keep your line somewhat.

rode some with wife on back and that was fun.. especilly in the sand.. still have marks on waist for her hanging on.. :) strong girl for sure..

I recommend them for sure. I grew up racing MX so time on the road for me is a bit more of a learning/ fear curve.. watch some of the crash video of MC riders to see how things can happen. it helps prepare you for stuff..somewhat but lots of speed and doing stupid stuff is a sure fire way to get in a crash.

have fun and enjoy what ever you get. wish we could post picture of stuff here not the link to stuff.. OH well..

If it is Philbrick Motor Sports in Ashby, they have done very good by me. I did not buy my TBR from them but they do service mine annually and do an excellent job. You can trust them.
