Hi all.....

does anybody know of an alternative engine oil that I could use instead of SAE15W/40....I live in the UK if that means anything.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks :D

I've had good luck with regular automotive oil. I am currently running a SAE 30 weight car oil. Look on the back and stay away from anything that says "Energy Conserving" in the round SAE label. IMO 40 weight oil is too think for these little motors. I noticed a considerable increase in performance and fuel mileage and lower oil temps when I dropped to the lighter oil. I may try a 20 weight next oil change. It's not like these little motors are putting out 100 hp. I just can't see the need for heavy oils in these little work horses.

I have to second Mr. 2003's Comments, After reading his oil thread, I've been running 5w30 Synth In both of mine, with no adverse effects. I might bump it up a bit for summer, but I'm running ATv's....

I like the Rotella 15w40 dinosaur oil. With that, the gear shift is silky smooth. I plan to go with the Rotella synthetic oil after my engine is totally broken-in.

I've tried Valvoline 10w40 car oil and motorcycle oil, but the gear didn't like them as much as the 15w40 Rotella. I think the 10w40 is too watery for super-hot Texas summer.

yeah kurt keep in mind your winter and summer temps, to thin a oil can cause gear or clutch damage, but if you keep readin here lots of different oil users here
