As the title says, I installed a 45/45 watt bulb last night. On high beam, the new light is fine. On low beam, it burns out the fuse instantly. I re-installed the OEM 35/35 bulb, and it was fine. So, I put the 45 watt bulb back in and taped the dimmer switch in the "high" position.

That is odd. Are you sure that it wasn't shorting on something?

Yes. If it was shorting out, the 35 watt bulb should have blown fuses as well.

might need a larger fuse to handle the extra 10 watts

I am thinking that when you installed the new bulb they you may have shorted the low beam circuit or the bulb has a short.

If the bulb works on high beam then the fuse can handle the load.

and a small C class, frame mounted fire extinguisher

I certainly wouldn't deny the possibility of a short, but wouldn't the 35 watt bulb burn out fuses too then?

I am just thinking that it may be a defective bulb.

I converted my headlight and use a Halogen H4 Bulb, 12V, 130/90W. I ride with my headlight on every day for 2 hours a day without issue.

How did you convert the headlight?

Yes we need the info. The 45w is good enough for me, but others would like a writeup with pics.

Yeah the fuses blow easy, I cant test any of my lights without the bike started......my lights dim fast if the bikes not started.....I found 100 fuses for $10.00 on ebay shipping included, Ill probablty use them all within the year!

I only have one fuse off the battery on my bike (Shineray XY200GYE 2006)

I changed the headlight connector to a three pin to match the light bulb and had to make two small cuts on the light bulb backing plate for it to fit the headlight casing. Not to hard to do at all really!

I would lean toward a short inside the bulb or the bulbs connecter prongs. If it is working on HIGH then it should draw less amps on LOW and therefore not blowing your fuse.

It was indeed the bulb. The second bulb (spare) that I bought works just fine.

Now, if I could only get the light to aim right....

I found that it works best in mine if you point the little reflector think down inside the bulb.

The socket with fit if you rotate is 180 degrees.

Kato "The socket with fit if you rotate is 180 degrees."

Have you been writing chinabike manuals again Kato? :P

The thing is that I understand you

It makes sense to me so it must be okay for everyone else.

The extra 10 watts made a big difference on my bike.
