I am going from a 56t to a 45t sprocket.
I would think 9 or 10 links would do it, but I am not sure.
I hope to be able to travel at 55mph at 7000 rpms.

I just went from a 17T front x 56T rear to a 42T rear sprocket and removed 4 links. I kind of guessed by first reading everything I could from the other fine chinabikers in this site. Result was if I removed 5 (which I almost decided on), it would have been too short. Just error on the side of caution unless you don't like that way of doing things. Then just give er hell.

I went from a 17t front 56t rear to a 46t rear and only needed one or two links... take your time.. cause you cant put it back together once you slice it. Measure how many links go around the 56t and how many go around the 45 that should be how many come off. Still go slow one at a time.

Actually you can have a chain that you've added to using 2 master links. That's what the mechanic said to me when breaking my chain,( for free) I felt like telling him, don't give me a chain with 2 master links! I won't pay for it. But he did say that a chain with 2 is not much more likely to break than a chain with 1. If it's roadside wrenching I'd do it in a second, but I don't think it's ideal in the long run.

You can add in half links along with the connector.
