I made a pretty stupid and big mistake over the week. Was going for a simple oil change on the grom clone, this is the second time since receiving the bike and I wasn’t careful. Instead of undoing the oil drain it appears I undid the timing chain tensioner plug thing. It popped out with the spring and the plunger.

The even dumber part was I put the spring in first and then the plunger on a very uneducated guess and was very clearly wrong. Started the bike up and it started to rattle. I stopped and pulled the plunger back out first but the spring did not follow. I’ve tried to fish out the spring but it is lost in the motor. I tried today after getting a set of motorcycle flywheel pullers to get into the motor but I could not get the flywheel off. Nothing in the set worked.

I really just need help on how to access that area. Im not really familiar with small engines but I have dropped the motor on this before to upgrade the motor mount bolts.

What do I need to do in terms of access and tools to get into the engine and get this spring out??

Not familiar with that motor but I would probably pull the head/cylinder and have a magnet fish around first. Cracking the crankcase is a lot of work. Might could even get lucky via the dipstick access depending on size of the spring. Feel your pain on that one..

Look at the motion pro fly wheel puller tool. I used it with success. I tried other kinds of puller tool and only ended up with a mushroom end on the shaft. I had to file it down and die it.

There is a chance that you may be able to remove the valve cover and locate the screw by looking down the side of the cam chain and rotating the engine? I would definitely try that first because it is so easy to get the valve cover off.

If you do need to pull the flywheel, this puller (https://www.amazon.com/TRKIMAL-Magneto-Flywheel-Kawasaki-Scooter/dp/B082CVRW6M/ref=asc_df_B082CVRW6M/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693319229662&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12621267923060356528&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1016191&hvtargid=pla-895908372216&psc=1&mcid=abf809d65d593f94881119098ef0a079) should work well for you.

Let us know how you do. Good luck!

Cheers!
