So I have been watching several videos on stuff pertaining to chondas.. specifically the KPX 250..

On Venom website they have a couple of maintenance videos I as watching as I am going to become a new owner here soon and wanted to be up to speed on stuff..

On the "put it together" video by herbies garage and on the "How to change the Oil on the 2022 Lifan KPX 250" by JerryHawk250 both show you unscrewing the oil filler cap, cleaning off, registering into the case and just sitting it on top not screwing it in..

How ever in the video on Vernom site that video "How to Change the Oil on Your Lifan KPX 250cc Dual Sport Motorcycle | Venom Motorsports" from Oct 2024 at the 15:30 time you see after the filter change adn ready to refill case.. the guy put about a qt oil in and then starts engine reving to 2K or so RPM for 10 seconds or so and then recheck oil by screwing the filler cap in and then back out to see level..

SO my question, and I was not able to find the answer in the KPX 250 service manual I downloaded from there website..

What is the proper way to check the oil.. with engine cold, hot,, cranked up and run for 10 seconds, stopped then checked etc.

I was alway taught to unscrew, clean stick, stick back in to top pull out and check level..

the difference between the video on venom website and JH250 etc is like 1/2 of oil level in case..

On the oil.. When i was looking at the wiring schematic I see a elec oil pump.. where is that located adn does it exist..

I can't say for 100% certainty of it's correctness, but I have checked my genuine Honda's oil basically as you described. Pull the bike up straight and level after letting it set long enough for the oil to drain to the bottom of the case, pull the stick and wipe it, insert w/o threading it in and check the level on stick. This is per instructions in Honda's owners manual. Since these engines are based off the Honda design...it's a safe bet the oil level should be about the same. I have a couple of thousand miles on my Templar x 250 now with this method. No issues as of yet.

I thought I replied to this before but I don't see my reply. With the KPX 250 the correct method is screwed in all the way to properly check the oil level. Really does not matter hot or cold just let it sit for a few minutes after engine shut off if checking it hot. Put the recommended 1.1 liter of oil (measured) after oil change stand the bike straight up, screw in the dipstick all the way in, and the oil will reach up to the 3rd hash mark out of 4 on the dipstick every time.

I've heard to check oil on Chinese bikes by dabbing the stick versus screwing the stick in like on Japanese bikes. My Templar's manual says to dab just like Crossbar says in post #4.

Well finally got the new bike in and 95% put together.. I started reading the owner's manual to see what I could find to make the first parts of ownership not so crazy..

In there is states the engine for delivery is filled with 15W40 oil that meet SJ classification APT rating. your usual T-4 rotella 15W40 oil..

In the Engine Oil Section on page 14 it talks about checking oil level as following.

*Place the vehicle on level ground with bike at vertical to ground. Remove and clean dipstick, then insert into the engine oil to check oil level..

no where does it say to screw the cap in, just insert..

The Hawk manual, which has been the same for years, says the same thing - insert the stick without screwing it in. However during my recent oil change I discovered that the little porthole-type window has H and L lines which seem to be right when the bike is straight vertical.
