I have an electric issue with my bike over a year ago am just getting to repairing..... had alot going on. I put a 9amp battery in it and things started melting. It is a mighty max fit in slot perfect.
It was having issues before and feel it wasn't the battery.
Could using the 9amp battery hurt anything on the bike? should i use a lower amp battery after repairing. I will be having the harness, strator and regulator tested and or replaced. anything else i should look at?

I assume you mean the battery is 9 Amp Hour rated? That just means from a full charge to no charge it has a capacity of discharging 9 amps for 1 hour, or 1 amp for 9 hours. etc.
How much potential power the battery has won't cause wiring to melt. That is either a short somewhere or a component failure that is pulling too much current. Think of it like a tank of fuel, it's just there to supply the demand for that energy.
what circuit started melting, exactly?

Yes that is what I meant. I don't do well with electrical, I don't know what circuit. Just that it smoked. a green ground wire on the left side started melting. wires that look to go towards the strator...then had no more spark. I did find a local bike mechanic the specializes in motorcross style bikes. Never knew he was here before. He is working on my sons pit bike now. My tbr7 will goto next. gonna be pricey but I want the bike running.
Thank you for the input, he is going to help me lower it also.

If I had to guess, look for pinched wires either under the fuel tank or under the sprocket cover on the engine. 2 most likely spots for a short that would melt a ground (Green is ground).

My mechanic replaced the wire harness and cdi still no spark. He wants to test the strator but we can not find any information for resistence testing the strator.
Any one have any information about how to test the strator?
TAO doesnt seem to have much info out there.
Also the strator i got from ebay is the wrong one. any advice on best place for parts?

well it is fixed. rode it home today. it turned out to be the ignition coil. Harness had to be replaced now everything is working that did not when I first got the bike. ie gas gauge did not work. now it does.

That tells me the harness likely got pinched under the tank.
