So picked up used tao 250 Quad (NOT gy6 style engine). It sat for a long time. The carb was stuck due to the gas just turned to glue it's obviously sat so long. Also wires were chewed by rats. So what I've done. Replaced gas tank (was rusty), complete wire harness with all the bells and whistles (on amazon), new carb, hoses and pepcock and lastly for now new battery. I replaced the entire wiring loom and new accessories that came in kit minus the new stator as i didnt want to do it unless i had to. At first it cranked and no spark. I double checked everything and even put each of the original components back on new harness but nothing so put all new ones back on. I then figured that it had to be the strator. Replaced that but instead of using a new standard gasket I used RTB silicone gasket maker as I wanted to make sure its water tight as im gonna put snorkel on it eventually. Finally did get spark but it's not the consistent spark you normally see when cranking over any engine. It might spark every 5-10 seconds. I ordered a new complete wiring kit again and replaced the loom again and eventually each add on component and nothing has changed. The only thing I didnt change again is another strator as I didnt want to do it unless last resort. And yes the kill switch is not activated. Is the strator replacement again the last thing to try or is there anything else I should try first. Fyi I did get it fired up one time after sooooo many attempts. Buy holding throttle all way open and choked for a few seconds then unchoked. I was shocked i was able to get it running once for about 5-7 seconds even though spark was so inconsistent. Unfortunately I accidently shut it down by a plastic bag getting stuck over opening of carb. Never started again. Any advice? Before I try another new strator

Ok so got it to start but it is still having that non consistent spark. How i got it to turn over is instead of holding the start button down I tap it repeatedly. I noticed that if I tapped it I would have better chance of multiple sparks and once it starts it runs great. But if I just hold button down it might and I say might spark once in 10 seconds. What can be causing that? Still want it fixed correctly tapping the start button evertime will eventually wear out my starter faster. So this isn't a good fix for me

Do you have a multimeter? Know how to use one? Maybe get an automotive or motorcycle manual and check out the basics of troubleshooting. I’d start at the battery and clean each connection and make sure ALL connections are clean and tight

Good advice. I'm above average when ot comes to tinkering on motors but I'm far from expert a good book could help maybe. As for connections I gone through all and everything g is solid

When you get it running, check the voltage at the battery. It should be around 14.5 volts. If not, you need to get a new rec/reg. The next step is to change out the CDI. I know it seems that you are "shooting the parts cannon" at it but these parts are cheap and could be a simple fix.
Another thought; check out the connections at the coil and the condition of the coil wire to the plug. Might as well replace the plug if you haven't already.
