That's a too-wide valve clearance if I've ever heard one.

What should the valve clearances bet set at for these bikes? I just set it for .005 exhaust and .003 intake

I would guess that you did what many new people do and didn't put the engine on the right TDC stroke. The engine has 2 TDC's in it's 4 stroke cycle, and if one sets the valve lash with the engine on the TDC of the exhaust stroke, the valve gaps will end up VERY wide because the cam is putting pressure on both valves. They should only be set with the engine at TDC of the compression stroke.
