Everything on my new hi-bird 200gy has come togeather very nicely except that after i had all of my wireing tucked away and everything bolted up my headlight dosent work. (frist try did not work, has not worked yet) all of the other components work correctly just no front headlight. I took my wireing harness apart and tested the connection that the headlight plugs into and it has no voltage. so i was trying to track down the next spot to test to go down the line and see where my problem is but i cant find where those wires go without tearing everything out. anybody know where i should check next?

I cant find a wireing diagram anywhere for the hi-bird 200gy. At this point i have the entire wireing harnes tore back and im trying to find a loose connection.

before I go any further riping this thing apart can anybody tell me if the headlight even works without the engine running? i havent started this bike yet so im not sure at all.
Should work with key on engine off, Make sure the headlight switch is on!
I think the Bird has a headlight switch??

there is a switch but it is only for the selection of high or low beams.... is there another on/off switch that i dont know about? i was asumeing that the light would always be on?

the head light operates directly off the strator. the reason for this is if the key is left on it will not drain the battery. get your bike to fire before tearing any further into the wiring. if the headlight still does not work we will work it out some more
Hmm, I don't have a Bird! But,My Roketa has a on/off switch as well as a hi/lo beam switch.
First bike I have had with this option.....May be worth a look..

Make sure the prongs in the headlight plugs aren't bent, in the connectors.
This is what happened with my signal lights when I bought my GY-5.

My headlight runs off the stator so the bike needs to be running. Some are wired to run from the battery. And some bikes even have an on/off switch for the lights.

I trailered the bike to my moms so I could break it in off road. All the lights work as they are suposed to  I guess I should have got the bike started before I wasted all that time tearing apart the harness. When I was in there I ended up soldering togeather all the loose connections and the grounding wire bundle so I guess it was worth my time.
For road safety reasons I actually like the idea that the light is on all the time.

It is federal law that the light be on at all times on the road.

Bikes sold (new) after Jun 30th, 1974 in Canada-land.
Serial numbers older than that, no problem.
I think blinkers becasme law about the same time.

I have to put mine on manually every time, and I hate it. If I forget, it's the one thing the cops will pull over a bike for here in Toronto. :x

Have a problem, my lights did work, I almost did the same thing with tearing the the wire harness apart but decided to start my Hi-bird 200 first. I put about 53 miles on it and my headlight and taillight quit. If a light blows will it shut the whole lighting circuit down? The 12 volt 35 watt bulb in the headlight has a burn mark on it like it blew out. Unfortunately it went out on my way to work in the dark. Blinkers and brake lights work fine just no headlight or taillight. Can anyone help me with this?

Yeah sounds like you need a new bulb, I keep a few fairly strong led lights on my handlebars just in case something like that happens plus they make you more visible at night!

I'm not an electrician, but it sounds like a fault at the light switch by your thumb. At least that is something that controls both head and tail light at the same time. I'd look there first. :D
You'll need new bulbs for sure, but your fuse should be ok if your signals are working.

venussfreak,
It sounds like you have burned out both bulbs.
When replacing them check the voltage regulator ground wire(green wire) if not all of the connector wires. If the ground wire is loose, motor vibration will cause it to loose contact and give the headlight/tail light a 80 volt surge.

OK I replaced the bulbs, checked all my connections again and still no luck. I am just about ready to wire them direct so I can at least ride. The headlight switch only controls Dim and Bright on the Hi-bird. Let it run for quite a while and messed with all of the connections. Still Nothing.

I am having trouble with no headlight on mine also.
I have traced and tracked all the wiring and it is all connected and in good order as is the switch. I think I have a bad rectifier which is what I am going to try next.

Let me know if that works. It is really frustrating.
