A few months ago I was trying desperatly to get that motor for my 07 gy5. I called 3 different dealers and american lifan. I am pretty sure you can count this bike out of the running right now.
Edit, Ya I see that you checked out the china lifan website. they have some really scuba cool stuff that AL will probably never bring to the states.
I still want to be the first china rider to have a liquid cooled lifan V-twin enduro.
That isn't a v-twin though???
They were going to be getting it in Canada but I think there have been some hold ups... I don't know if they are still going to bring it over or what but if I see one I will let everyone know.
I want that bike and I want it now!

Why would they show a dual-sport with street tires? Be prepared to pay at least $1k more for that bike over its air-cooled predecessor (my guess).

that is the way a few other companies are making there bikes. w/ the street tires. I forget what they call them..."super motard"??? I think. suzuki builds one and qlink also does.
I love the bike. Too bad they won't import it for the same price as the gy5's
EDIT
I have decided to give some other importers a try for this motor. I sent lifan performance and hooper a message saying I wanted the 172 mn or mm engine. not sure which is the 300 but would really preffer it. Is there any others I can send an email to?
and the vtwin engine. I know I can never see such beauty grace this land we call america for less than $3,000 just for the engine. sniff.sniff...SOB

You need to talk to American Lifan about that one. They are the importers......
The problem is, they will have to go through all the government testing again to prove it passes all of our EPA laws and that is not cheap. This is a big reason why we don't see all the cool bikes here in the USA that show up in other countries.
I'd like to have those rims and tires for my bike.
I ride 99% street.

Yep.. thats right its called Super Motard or SuperMoto.. some of the big Japanese makes offer it as an option to the dual sport. And there are many ways to convert any DS to the SM version.. just need different rims, and street tires. The benefit of this is DS bikes are ususally VERY LIGHT compared to the sport bikes.. and they are narrow, so the lean angles are just CRAZY. Also they are very popular with the stunting guys, again they are light, and have good power to weight, and they have strong suspensions and frames to take the wheelies, and stoppies, and jumps.
Here are just a few I found.
Suzuki DRZ400SM

Husqvarna SM450R SuperMoto

These lean more to sport Touring but are listes as "Dual Sports"
Kawasaki Versys650

And the vernerable Kawasaki KLR650, this one is more dual sport, but because of its weight it is more a road bike than deep woods bike.

Here is a guy at Deals Gap riding his DRZ400SM.. he crashes at the end.

This one is mostly stunting

This is one of the many dangers at Deals Gap.. 18 Wheelers.. OUCH.

So my question is, how can I get the rims and tires from that GY-7? I wonder if they'd fit on the GY-5.

My atv is a 200cc liquid cooled and was only list priced at $1895 (this is canadian pricing so probably would be a bit less in the us), but I do agree being a 250 water cooled it would probably be more money, but it is a sharp looking bike.... I'm happy with mine though...

Deals gap looks like it would be fun if it wern't for the fact that there is big rigs on it.
Nice pics of the SMs I like the drz400 setup.

Suzuki DRZ400SM
The bike I can't afford. An instructor at my M2 course had a Suzuki DRZ400SM and I pulled up on my chinabike and drooled. Mine looke like a tiny version, I asked him what he payed. About $8000 he said.
I can't afford bike envy. But if I hit the lottery, I'd be riding a 400SM. Highway long rides are comfy compared to a sport bike, and I really don't want more cc's than 400. I really like the fact that the bike is lite, even for a 400. I live 40 minutes highway from a country road, and about an hour from a dirt bike trail. From what I heard it's a very quick bike for not being a sport bike.

The DRZ400S has an MSRP of $5,599 so I wonder how much of a difference the SM is to make it worth 8k? I've been looking hard at the DR's , mostly the 650's for a commuter rig, but a 400 would be nice as well (and maybe better suited for my needs?). There is a local '92 DR650 forsale for around $1,500 that has my interest. Cool bikes!

If they have the same number of spokers front and rear, it is easy. just rethread your hubs spokes to the new rim. presto! supermoto Zapkino!

Probably more to do with him being in Canada... This is what I've said time and time again about Canadian bike prices when people get upset after seeing a price on a china bike from Canada...
