Hey everyone, I've been looking for a site like this for a while. I need some advice! My wife and I just moved to Mongolia and I've been looking for a motorcycle. Originally was looking for a russian one but they're pretty hard to come by. There are a LOT of chinese bikes here, I was looking for an enduro style bike cause it fits my price range and they're more readily available.

There's only one enduro style available in my town and I can't find any info on the company on the internet. The name is printed in cyrillic on the bike but I believe the name would translate as "halhan" Writtne something like Xalghan. The model number is YG150-2E etc... I imagine it's 150cc? Anyone heard of this brand? I should go take some photos... they're going for the equivalent of $875. People here say not to buy them but a lot of Mongolians are a bit anti-chinese and won't buy stuff simply cause it's chinese. They say the motorcycle will last 2 years nd then just die.

Would love some advice, any input if you've heard of this brand... tired of putting out ads and searching the markets for japanese/korean bikes out of my price range...

Thanks!

$875 new is not too bad. Never heard of the brand, but most of these are built from the same parts.

How long it last is more of how you can for it and maintain it. We hear the same thing in the US, but I have over 11000kms on mine.

What is your parts supply?

I'd say that 2 years on an unpreped bike sounds like a lot to me. On a well maintained bike (depending if you bought a dud or not.) you should get more than 2-3 seasons. For the price, that is a long time. :D If you can't find loctite, get it shipped to you.

My HUMBLE advice would be to find a bike that is popular in your area, parts and help might be easier to find. My chinabike was my first bike so I really only needed it to last a couple seasons. When I sold it, it was running better than when I got it. Hardest part was finding someone to come look at it. 1st guy bought it on the spot and I got 1/2 my money back.

There are 2 good days in any motorcycle, the day you buy it, and the day you sell it. The good days in betwen are the gravy. :D

I will take some photos tomorrow and try to ask about parts and post what I find on here. Maybe that will help identify the bike.

As for what the bike will be used for, it's not for motocross or anything, just riding out in Mongolia (although that can be like motocross ahah) Mostly transport between towns via dirt track roads.

Part supply I'll check into, I'm sure it's fairly good cause it's all the sell here. They do pretty crazy repairs on the russian stuff though, some bikes over 10 years old still running, not repaired professionally but people here sure know how to keep a bike running.

Since it will be pretty light riding, I would hope I would get a long life out of whatever bike I end up getting...

Yamaha Enduros are $1500, Chinese about $850. I didn't really want to spend $1500 but if the Yamaha is going to last way longer then I may as well try to scrape the money together if a Chinese one is going to die off after 2 seasons...

Will try to get photos tomorrow, thanks for the comments and thoughts.

Any advice or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I know a guy in the big city about 6 hours away that sells Yamaha 200cc(I think) for $1500, don't know if they're new or not though. I would definitely rather spend $875, but if a Yamaha is going to last 5 years longer than this one then I'd rather try to save up for that. Mostly I'm just trying to dispel a bit all the people here who say that this bike will die in a year or two...

Whoa, I actually found their website:
http://www.yingangmotor.com/top3-2.asp

They don't have the YG150-2E listed but they do have the YG125-2E. Yingang is the brand then, any ideas?

Sorry brother I didn't know it was a brick and mortor store. That takes care of the parts issue unless they go under.

IMHO the big 4 bikes are much better, but in toronto canada, those bikes are 4-6 times more expensive. The price difference isn't 5-7 hundred, it's 4-5 thousand dollars. A yammi enduro here isn't 1500$, more lie $4500=used. $1500 is a great price! Go get that yamaha, I want you to be happy. I payed $1599 for my 150cc chinabike. Chinabikes are great for people on a really tight budget, or for people with more than 1 bike, or for people who really like to tinker with their bikes. Most people don't have access to $1500 yamaha's. Lucky you. :D

that bike has drum brakes and dual shocks.... I think that 1,500 for a yamaha is a steal of a deal. get the yammi. this bikes technology is 35 years old you will have a more capable machine than our gy5s' at pretty much the same price.

This 250GY looks pretty good though. I like the styling on it.

If you can get a good used yamaha for $1500 then that is a deal, but make sure it it not an abused used-up yamaha.

That little 150 has drum brakes on both end and a low pipe which is fine on the street, but off-road would get damaged.

I do like the gas-guage and the front rack.

Jonathan:

Just a question, but which model Yamaha is available if you dont get the cheaper alternative Chinese Enduro.

I would vote for the Yamaha myself, just wondering what model your going after.

Best of luck no matter which one you end up with, and safe riding!

Ok I gotta take offence, well maybe not. I guess it's my own stupidity that I chose to sell my chinabike and get a bike with drum brakes and dual shocks, and technology that is 36 years old, yep including points.
Not all old stuff is bad :D

The point was made. The more research you do before buying a bike the better your chances are at being happy.
