Ok i have been looking around for a new smaller sprocket for my Hi-bird 200gy. my bike came stock with a 16t front and a 46t rear and currently tops out at 60mph on my gps. I want 70mph. I have been searching thru tons of threads for info but im still confused. I would like to know what other Hi-bird owners have used for the rear sprocket. So far all i have found are a 50t and a 35t. I think i need somthing closer to 40. Anybody know what old honda bike would have the right sprocket size? :?:

You could up the front to a 17T that would help.

Should be able to to as low as you want on the rear sprocket sized.
Below about a 45 the chain drags pretty bad on the swingarm mat though. I'm using a 39, and 17.
The engine seems to beg for a bigger gear even with the 39.

thanks for the replies. I ended up going to the local cycle junkyard and found a 35 tooth ($10) that fit with some modification to the mounting holes. (Durring instalation i noticed that my front sprocket can "jiggle" back and fourth on the shaft alittle bit. Is that normal?) So my thoughts on the 35 are that its a huge improvement. gears 1-4 pull great and 5th gear now feels almost like an overdrive. it will pull me up to about 65ish and then it runs out of power well before red line. It cruzes 55 like a dream at the low rpm i was looking for. Even tho I wanted a 40 tooth i think ill keep this on the bike if its not hurting anything. Am i hurting my engine in anyway by having such a small sprocket?

The wiggle on the front sprocket is normal.
The only downside to the small rear sprocket is the stress on the clutch when taking off from a stop. You probably need to slip the clutch some to go.

Its not too bad takeing off. Ive yet to stall it once and i have been releasing the clutch at about the same rate. first still seems very low to me but all other gears seem much much taller feeling. I had it up to 66.6 on the gps and it would have kept pulling with a long enought distance and no head wind. I only weigh about 160 lbs soaking wet so that may be helping me move.
