View Full Version : A real bummer

I adjusted my valves today, changed my oil, etc. Was riding the bike to work when the valves started hammering like crazy, worse than ever, and the bike died. I restarted it eventually, but it wouldn't rev past about 2500.

As always, I double-checked all my work - except maybe the nut on the exhaust rocker arm. I think I might have forgotten to tighten it up, which would mean it'd work itself loose fairly quickly, which would leave exhaust gas in the system longer than it should, which would dampen the engine.

I hope nothing's damaged. I'm going to pull it apart after work tonight.

I hope the nut didn't wedge something that should move freely.

I've seen this happen before, with no damage, on another bike. Hopefully it won't hurt anything here.

It idled for maybe four or five minutes after the adjustment, and then only saw about two minutes of road use, so as long as the nut didn't loosen all the way off and start floating around in there, I think all will be fine.

If not, well, there'd be no better time to pick up that pit bike....
