OK I apply my back break and it feels like it really goes down far before the break starts to slow the bike down. What is the proper break peddle clearance? Also how do I adjust it?

If you have a disk brake I would leave it that way. if the brake gets hot the caliper will get hot, expand and well.... brake for lack of better wordagemanism.

otherwise if you have a drum type brake you can tighten it up at the rear of the machine with a 10 or 11mm wrench

this bolt is the actuator for the rear brake it would be a long shiny rod that runs from the brake pedel to the rear drum. righty tighty lefty loosy. 8)

Hope that helps.

If you have a disk break.... have you checked your brake fluid level? You could also try bleeding out the old brake fluid and replacing with something better?

If it's a drum, adjust as alonzo suggested. With the back wheel off the ground tighten the adjuster until you hear the break starting to grab, then back it off a half turn so you can't hear it grabbing anymore and you should be good to go. :D
