You could buy almost the same bike for ~1500-2500. Just look for a 2000-2004 model KLR650... They are 99% the same bike as the '08. Almost indestructable.

Then again if $$ was oozing out of your pockets..... who cares???

I had my eye on the KLR for some time. I am especialy interested in the diesel version built for the Marines.

I am enjoying my china bike for now but who knows what the future holds.

The 2000-2005 KLRs here in the northwest are bringing $3500. I looked real hard at them and then saw the 2008 models. I put down a deposit... They are due at the dealers in about three weeks.

If I could have found a nice KLR for under 3k I would have bought one.

Careful not to slay too many beers before riding your new KLR, Ha, Ha...

As of now, yes. I put down a deposit on a 2008 KLR. As soon as they arrive at the dealer I have first pick. However, look at this:

I am torn...

Blimpman has MBD; a disease that I wish I could catch!! Beerslayer, it sounds like you can afford that disease, too. Just what were you running in Nicaragua....? (And I am beginning to doubt that 'Beerslayer' is your real name.....hmmmmm :? )

Affording the MBD is one thing. What I don't have is room for toys. That I can't afford. If I had space I would have a duece and a half, a 69 Ford F250, and, I don't know, a big firewood pile! You are right though, Beerslayer is not the name my mother gave me. That was the name awarded by those who know me best.

After trying to flog highway speed out of a bike [GY200] that was not designed for it, I am thinking more towards a big bore bike. Most of my riding is around town or logging and desert roads. I don't need the offroad performance.

The GY 200 is great for running around, but either you seem to sacrifice high end or low end. It just doesn't really do both well. I am on my third sprocket change and not yet happy. I will probably go back to 17x56.

My Nicaraguan ride so far has been a rental Toyota from Dollar or Hertz. They want $1800 for a bike that we can get here for $1000 and I just can't do that. When I get a good garage with steel grates on every opening built on my place there, then I will buy a bike to keep there.

It just kills me, all that beautiful double track and no bike to ride. Yet. I have to scrape up the money next week for building permits, and "special permission".
