OLD WINS AGAIN.

I have a loothing of cars made after 1997.

My first car was a 1982 Chevette diesel. 50hp and 60mpg at 55mph.

I also had a 94 escort wagon that got 40mpg on the highway.

I laugh at these people buying a prius and tell me they get 45mpg due to the technology. I paid $100 for the chevette.

I have a '99 Escort that doesn't get that high of mileage :cry: but I do agree with the Prius hype--it's not that impressive, and just because Hollywood stars embrace it, does not make the hype true.

My '96 Buick Roadmaster once got 27 mpg at 77mph from L.A. to Kingman, AZ. I filled it up in L.A. after a visit, and this was in the summer so I had the air conditioning on from my parents' home to Kingman, and set the cruise at 77mph. When I filled the car in Kingman, that is the mileage I got (yes I recalculated several times!). I guess the combination of torque, horsepower and car weight factored in (Roadmasters are not trucks, so "only" weigh about 2 tons or 4000 pounds vs the 5000+ of GM's pickups

Escort 1.9L 5 speed manual. I got 37 in suburban driving. They were known to run lean.

I think the 99 had a bigger engine.

Yes, 2.0 auto (only 3-speed auto, no overdrive)

I should have kept it. Strip off all unnesisary frills (like it had any) to lighten the load to see what kind of mileage it could have gotton.

your motorcycle is an extreme-ish example of this, although 200cc's is pushing the limit as far as compared to the weight of the typical GY.
