Hello there, just picked up a couple of these Mopeds/Scooters the other day, and am hoping someone else owns these and can point me in the right direction of doing some modifications to them. I have been searching around the internet and can't seem to find anything helpful out. Was hoping to increase overall speed, or atleast initial acceleration. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is a link with specs

http://www.mercadosite.com/en/manresa/mopeds-bicycles-moped-other/scooter-50cc/11208.html

I don’t know much about them, i do know it is a 4 stroke though.

Thanks,
Ken

oh boy,oh boy! the only question i have is how much money do ya have
as far as what can be done its better to ask what cant might i suggest a big bore kit, 72 or 82cc, bigger cam, ehxhaust, and a air cleaner maybe even a little bigger carb but i havent found any yet a 20 or 21 mm then to get it to the ground a hp clutch and kevlar belt you can play varaitor weights a get a little more but i have yet to notice big jumps there then after everything is seated and broke in a hp cdi box with a coil, i havent seen any diffrence in coils but do all this hills should be topped at over 20mph and around 50 on the flats

Changing the CDI unit can be performed in minutes. This releases a bit of performance. Here's a link to a forum where this is discussed:

Thank You for that forchetto.

Couple of questions seeing i am a complete newb to this.

1.) What is CDI? Where is it located? (from what i gather it is something to do with ignition)

2.) Where do you recommend i buy a new 1?

3.) What type do i buy?

4.) Is there some directions or manual somewhere showing how to install new 1?

Thanks for your help.

Ken

Cdi = digital ignition
cdi is plug and play...unharness old one...click in new one.

I don't have much faith in the aftermarket cdi available in N.A. however.

Altering you needle in the carb, jetting, and exhaust will free up the stock motor.
Variator weights will affect take off speeds, lighter will have faster take off, heavier more top end (slightly).
A 50cc scooter would be hard pressed to obtain a +5mph difference without a big bore kit.
These guys here know scooters

Thanks for the reply warrior.

I just want to do 1 thing at a time.

So my next step is figuring out the correct cdi to purchase.

Any recommendations..and how do i know which to purchase that will be right for my scooter?

Count the pins in the plug harness of the cdi. do a search of this site to see pics of cdi.
This will tell you what to order. if it has 6 pins...or 5...etc
Check out chinese parts websites for "race cdi" with corresponding pin count and cc size...generally it seems there are 50-150cc cdi, and 200cc and up cdi...
To make the most use of the extra spark and adjusted timing I would start with carb, air and exhaust....then cdi box.
That is my humble opinion.
Welcome to chinariders.

Chances are your scooter has a type GY6 engine. The best way to start spannering is to download this very good workshop manual from here:

http://www.scootdawg.com/page3

It's 21 mb but worth it.

There's also this page with lots of info on Chinese scooters and another GY6 manual download (same manual):

http://www.oregonvintage.com/Scooter.html

If you google for racing CDI for GY6 engines you come to this sort of thing:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TB-6pin-Race-CDI-GY6-QMB-50cc-Scooter-Pit-Bike_W0QQitemZ220404699992QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mo torcycle_Parts?hash=item220404699992&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262

http://i.ebayimg.com/22/!BR(5CKwCGk~$(KGrHgoOKkIEjlLmVgL3BJ9r)4d!IQ~~_1.JP G

Always use the "GY6" reference when looking for performance or spare parts.

How do i make sure my engine is a GY6 type?

There will be a type number engraved or stamped on the side of the crankcase somewhere, or even in the documentation. The engine type for 50cc 4-stroke Chinese scooters is 139QMB. This engine is a Honda clone GY6 type.

You can also check the general appearance against the workshop manual pictures and diagrams.

Looks like this:

There's a massive high definition photo of the original Honda GY6 here:

Forget what it says on the variator transmission case. These are plastic mouldings that can have different styles and makers names on them.
