View Full Version : Can I get my money back?

I've been describing my ordeal with an American Lifan dealer in another thread. Here it is in a nutshell. It's been 4 weeks, and I still don't have any paper work. Dealer keeps saying he sent them, week after week. I'm getting extremely irritated. He says he has registered it for me and sent me the plates already. I assembled the bike, and it's been sitting uselessly in my garage for the past 4 weeks.

I have a question for you dealers out there. Is it reasonable for me after 4 weeks to take the bike back to the dealer and ask for my money back? If not, what can I do? Sue in JP court? Complain to Federal Trade Commission?

I think you have 60 days for the credit card company. If he was going to register it for you and send a tag then he should have sent a temp tag or paper for you to use until it arrived.

I know that you mentioned he sent a tracking number in your other thread. What is the current status on it? Did UPS make the pickup or scan it in yet?

I would tell him to overnite it or you will start the dispute process on the credit card and report him to the state agency that issues dealer's licenses.

Yes, he should have, but he didn't. This dealer is very incompetent.

The dealer said he put the package in a UPS drop box on Sunday. However, UPS today (Wednesday) says they haven't received any package.

The dealer is 300 miles away. If I get a refund and the bike is to be sent back, who should bear the cost of shipping?

A couple of things come to mind. If he already registered it, your local DMV can verify by looking up the vin number. Also, you possibly could tell them you now have a lost plate and have them issue a new one for you. The title would be comeing from the state so that would not be a problem.

But It sounds doubtfull that he is telling the truth.

Cal, thanks for the idea. I just checked with the tax office, and its computer shows the Vin# is registered under my name. That's a bit of good news. It also shows the title has already been issued by the State of Texas. So, it's possible that I'll receive the title before the license plate.

Yes, I can apply for a lost license plate. But I don't know how much that'll cost.

The dealer is truly disorganized and sloppy. Needless to say, I won't be recommending 'em to anyone.

Time to put some miles on to make up for lost time. We don't expect to hear from you until Monday.
