View Full Version : Performance improvements?

I am seeing a few "hop up" items available for the Chinese Honda clone motors. Do any of them have any value?

I guess I am asking about:
1) racing stator assembly (small rotor) with CDI
2) CDI replacement
3) various "goofy" colored mufflers
4) carb upgrade

Thanks in advance!

It depends on what pit bike you have.

My 125 Gio has an excellent exhaust. I would not change it.
The carb wasn't a bad size, but the 24 mm Mikuni was a big improvement.
I have an inner rotor kit, and new CDI to try in the next few weeks.
I'll post a report.
The previous CDI I tried was a big disappointment. A waste of the $25 I payed for it.

the inner stator should have its own cdi unit, at least mine do and with the lesser rotating mass it will rev quicker

Ya, I kinda wondered about that. You certainly aren't going to buy much of a sophisticated ignition for $25. I can see a larger capacitor (from stock) in the CDI giving a hotter spark, but nothing to modify the ignition curve for $25. Did you try messing with the timing after the CDI install?

with the lesser rotating mass it will rev quicker

Is this "the company line", of do you know this first hand?

Thanks for the replies guys, keep the info coming.

yes it will rev quicker, and yes it will be harder to ride much closer to a 2 stroke, yes its first hand, no i dont know if a cdi will help, i dont think you can use a diffrent cdi than what comes with the stator kit anyhow, unless you rewire it. and i do carry a few but havent priced them yet

CDI will give +10% more HP as rev limiter is removed. It's been tested by customers, good upgrade for little money.

CDI will increase performance of mini quad by quite a lot as well. Not sure what you mean disappointment. We will try to get some tech numbers done on them.

They work on entire mini atv, 125cc dirt bike line up. Big CDI works on 200cc, 250cc dirt bikes, 250cc ATV.

We will also get GY6 no rev CDI performance for those who have GIO 150cc monster, lambo.

Many other upgrades are coming for sale, quite a lot. A lot of suspension parts for dirt bikes 125cc, 250cc, front shocks, back shocks, all kinds of shocks.

Cheers

1) racing stator assembly (small rotor) with CDI

Fitting an inner rotor kit to an engine with a crank mounted clutch upsets the crank balance and will lead to crank breakage. The original rotor is weighed to match the clutch assembly on the other end of the crank.

Ok, here is the $100 question:
If I do the small rotor kit is there enough juice to drive a small headlight/tail light?

I don't think I would do the inner rotor kit for a street application. Fine for racers, but I would stick to other mods like the CDI, carb, exhaust.

No. The stator only has the exciter winding to supply a relatively high voltage (60-90 Vac) at a low current. This is then rectified and used to charge the capacitor in the CDI unit.

I'll repeat the advice on a previous post: If you have a crank-mounted clutch, fitting an inner-rotor unit will break the crank sooner or later.
