Hey Guys,

W&G and I got the Beast's out today for a little saddle time in what we dubbed Test and Tune day.

The Red Beast performed adequately for it's dollar value! :) The carb is still flakey, wants to idle real high. Mikuni a necessity for sure. I had some minor issue with the shifting, didn't want to come out of reverse at one spot. Thought my day was done but it miraculously started working again and gave me no problems from then on. Not sure what that was about. We had given it fresh 10-40 Motorcyle oil before leaving.

W&G was happy to try out his new Speedo Mod, which I think clocked us close to 70 km/hr at one point. Take my word for it, it feels like 170km/hr with the suspensions tossing you around and the entire unit vibrating.

I took some photos of course!

The 'twins' in a row, no, not the Swedish kind, no photos of Daniel and Henrik. (hockey joke)

I still think it might be a 'tad' small for me, but oh well. Talk of a lower geared sprocket for me, lugging me up hills a bit.

W&G in action: Through the creek, up the hill. His quote: "It's a little tractor!"

Some perspective on the hill W&G was climbing away from the creek. I didn't sissy out and went down and up this myself.

All and all a great day and weekend trying out the new toy. No broken parts or limbs.. W&G took on a rock at speed, and took a little whack, but he sucked it up like a man and rode onwards. W&G's Beast popped the exhaust gasket, and if not for the heat burning your leg it sounded way better. :)

Favourite moment of the day for me:
W&G was getting a little aggressive with me while riding some of the trails, thinking he was 'all that' and going to pass me, so I gave him a little tune up of my own... yeah, I moved left in front of him and hit that puddle at speed, giving him a good mud water rooster tail shower... yeah, that'll teach him.

P.S. Sorry for lack of professionally quality in the photos. It was raining today and was getting late in the afternoon, so the light was bad. It was almost dark while we were loading the rigs back in the truck.

What a great day.

The blown gasket made a notable performance difference, which only goes to show how much pressure is in the exhaust system. Next up: Monster exhaust and Mikuni installation.

In retrospect, I think it was that rock that took out my front tire, TurboT. I'll inspect it later and see if it might have created a bead leak.

T's shifting problem was due to the high idle. It would shift into neutral when you shut it off, but not at 3000 rpm. 8O Turning the idle down (again) seemed to cure the issue.

Thanks for driving us up there T. I covet your truck. 8)

Makes sense really. That was a pretty good sized boulder, well hidden by that uphill whoop. That seems to be a jinxed spot for you as I seem to remember you almost flipping your bike ontop of yourself in that exact location.

Hope your arm is okay?

I'm alright. Nothing that either some NSAID (or some beer) won't fix.

Thanks for the ride report and photos, Turbo; it appears you gentlemen had a great time! :D

P.S. Like many, if not most people in the United States, I don't understand hockey jokes. When you said Swedish twins, I immediately thought of beautiful females, not hockey players! ;)

Spud :)

I'm a Canadian, and I was focused on females too, Spud. :D

Hey Spud and W&G,

I purposely threw the Daniel and Henrik thing in there because everyone's brain would head the girl way, even mine as I typed it.. but then I remembered a commercial for the NHL a few years ago, where guys were at a bachelor party waiting for the swedish twins to come dance for them.. the doorbell rings and it's the two hockey players from our local team here, Daniel and Henrik Sedin. It was a funny commercial and as I was typing it, thought I'd throw it in there!

..it dawned on me the less hockey focused crowd would go, "WTF is he on about?" ... but I thought it'd add some good Molson Canadian drinkin, hockey luvin Canadian flavour, eh? :)

Go Canada Go, Vancouver 2010. :)
