yes i have put a gy6 carb on my 200cc beast and now you can say it is a real beast. at frist i was going to get a mikuni but you still have a manual chock and how the intake is made it kills performance. here are the pic

and yess i have automatic electric choke working and video is coming soon

ps must use a uni filter the air filter i had on was too small

That's really tempting.

Is that a rad hose that you're using for an intake tube? What else secures the carb? What size is the GY6 carb you're using?

Reveeen

Being a "vacuum carb" it is VERY forgiving, though you might benefit form fooling with jets, stock being a 103.

Some jetting info here:
http://www.chinariders.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8995

I have a pair of vacuum carbs off of a 400 Yamaha, that can be split up, and singly used, here I want to "play" with, when the snow goes.

to start yes it it a rad hose, i cut the stock intake manifold and slip the rad house over it. i also made a braket the holds the carb at the same place as the throttle cable. i also had to modified the throttle cable on the carb side. the carb itself is 150cc gy6, it is stamp kf on the side and is made in japan, air/fuel side is 26mm and air filter side 43mm.

for now i just got the stock exhaust (i modified it for more flow), gio performance cdi and Iridium spark plug. it runs amazing, it has so much more power. i am still running with no filter on the carb because my new filter did not come in.

the reason you get more performance with the gy6 carb is because of the remove of the gio intake manifold. the oem intake manifold is very restricted because the air/fuel must go up and then in to the engine. with the gy6 carb it is direct so the is no restricted the air/fuel is sent straight to the motor. so this is why a 26mm gy6 carb give you more power on your 200cc

next mod will be a full line exhaust in stainless steel with a 150cc pitbike exhaust.

sorry to go a bit off topic but is the rear shock on a gio beast 11" eye to eye ?????

Weldangrind
01-04-2010, 02:04 AM
Yep, 11" eye to eye.

I wonder how to calculate the CFM potential of the 26mm diameter. It would be helpful to know if the 26mm carb can properly feed a 200cc engine throughout the rpm range, assuming 85% VE. Anybody know?

I know how to calculate the CFM needs of the engine, but I'm not sure what a 26mm (or 30mm for that matter) can provide.

I will have to measure my Mikuni performance carb for the actual diameter, if it is 30mm as stated then i can't see a 26mm making more power.
Anthony have you made sure that your GY6 carb is jetted properly for your engine? If it came jetted for a 150cc then you may find you think you are getting way more power but it might just be caused by a lean condition and your engine won't tolerate that for long.

I know on my PZ30 Mikuni carb, by adding the UNI filter, CDI and the Monster Performance exhuast i've had to jet up 4 sizes on the main and i'm still waiting for the bigger pilot jets to come in as these mods have demanded the need for more fuel, yeah it made tons of power when i first put the carb on but i could hear it in the exhaust note and the engine sounds that it was way too lean.

Make sure you do a spark plug check to make sure your jetted properly, this can only be done with a wide open run and then killing the ignition, then reading the plug.

the performance coil is a must, best 25$$ ever it spent it rev up even faster now. if you have the performance cdi u must get the coil here is the ebay link

I wonder if that coil would be any different then the one they sell at GIO on the auctions for the GY6 150cc engine? It kinda looks the same, other than yours already has the NGK spark plug boot spliced in. I may have to try it out on my beast.

Reveeen
01-17-2010, 11:48 AM
It appears different.

The one GIO sells has a hole in the body of the coil for a single stud mount, and, of course, you do not get the NGK LB05FP spark plug end.

The GIO coil comes with a silicone wire of good length with a protective sleeve. It also includes a fairly heavy duty spark plug end designed to seal up the cooling shroud on a GY6, but should work well elsewhere.

For the $2, or so, you are going to buy the GIO one for, I would certainly try one (I have bought 3 so far).

anthonyfa18
01-17-2010, 10:18 PM
i forgot to say that the ngk plug did not fit on my spark plug so i put my oem one on. also r you that the one from gio works on the beast??? the mounting is different and it has 2 wires to plug on it wile the beast has only one.??

You might have to put on or remove the little screw top on the plug to work with the high voltage wire connector on your machine.

It is simply threaded on like a nut. You may be able to unscrew it with your fingers, or use a small pair of pliers. I'd replace the plug if you have it already. The Chinese plugs can cause some odd problems that are difficult to diagnose. :D

hey guys, sorry if this is a little off topic but since mostly everyone here has a beast and are discussing mods for them i was wondering if anyone had experimented with widening the stance on these quads (mostly rear axle) I found that with the front end you can switch the fron tires around so that the offset in the wheels makes that wider but this does not also apply to the rear. any suggestions?

Your quad looks good!

How much did the bars cost if you don't mind me asking?

I have to say, with all your upgrades, I'm surprised you're still running the stock front shocks, the perf. ones from Gio are a big improvement.

hey dude your atv is sweet, nice mods and nice work on the diy stuff.

as for the shock, my atv is the exact same as yours just a different name.. i did some measuring today and you might like the info

honda trx 250r shocks are 15in if i remember correctly front center mount to center mount.. my shocks measured 14in center to center in the front.. so you could actually use a pair of honda trx250r or just trx250 front shocks.. i have not measured the rear shock on mine just yet.

very very nice, is that a direct drop in ?

when i post pictures on my new guy thread.. take a look at the motor mounts and see if you can tell me if it is a direct drop in or not.. i might go that route instead of the almot 1600 i was quoted by a dirtbike shop here in my town

Does the USFS stamp only refer to noise volume? I thought it was a reference to a proper spark arrestor.

damn good deal, im jealous.. i want new shocks, but got to deal with this exhaust stuff.. i was up last looking at videos for the sound of it. but man people dont realize when you do exhaust sound videos.. the exhaust has 2 different sounds.. if you sit there and video it idling and revving it sounds one way, but the real sound is what it sounds like when there is a load placed on the motor.. wish more people woud include a video of them driving the atv then every one else would know what the exhaust truely sounds like..

i dont think you are going to find any cf name brand mufflers.. i know the auto parts stores around my town sell carbon fiber wrap.. dont think i a muffler would get hot enough to burn it off. but you could just wrap it your self..

its a hmf powder coated black muffler.. it looks clean as hell.. but it is pricey..

but like i said above, you could buy some carbon fiber wrap and if you take your time you can wrap the muffler and have it look really good. esp round mufflers, they would be the easiest ones to wrap

look what came in the mail yesterday

http://a.imageshack.us/img828/1154/img0697k.th.jpg (http://img828.imageshack.us/i/img0697k.jpg/)

new gio air shock

i was happy that the shipping was fast and how the shock look but i am a littel worried about them. as i was getting them ready to bring up north to install on my beast, i went to check the the air pressure one of the shock readed 0 psi and the other read 24 psi. so i remove the little valve and found that it was jammed, so i replaced and now it works, then on the second shock as i lowed the psi the SAME thing happened. i fix it and now bought shock are at 8 pis each. should i tell GIO that i got 2 defected shocks??

waynev
08-06-2010, 12:17 PM
Don't worry about them not holding pressure, i've got 3 pairs of them and they all leak out eventually, but they still work 200% better than the stockers, when i'm at my buddies i usually use his nitrogen tank to fill them to 120psi, the best pair after 1.5 weeks will be back at 0.

but should i tell gio about it

Did you charge them up to around 100psi and then see if it will hold that pressure?

They may offer you another set for a small fee plus shipping, but really you'll probably end up with the same thing you already have, these shocks work soooooo much better than stock even without the adjustable compression dampning, so just bolt on them and run em'.

mizke
08-06-2010, 03:02 PM
i thought that shocks use fluid and not air. why do these ? are all atv shocks like these and use air

waynev
08-06-2010, 03:21 PM
i thought that shocks use fluid and not air. why do these ? are all atv shocks like these and use air

These shocks have a nitrogen filled "air bag" so you can adjust the compression dampning by adjusting the amount of nitrogen pressure in them, like i said my first pair was bad, payed GIO more to get a new set, the new set didn't leak as fast but they still did, then i got one of the new sets gold shock/black spring like the ones in the pic above, these held pressure the longest but eventually it leaks out, but they work so much better than stock that i don't even check the pressure anymore, they are just fine for me on my Beast.

sounds good but lets hear some runs in it. run it 1st through 4th, also becareful revving it nonstop like you did.. with out the revv limiter cuz the cdi removes that.. you could be spinning that top end faster then what it can handle..

like in a car when you want to run past the stock redline, you have to do strong valve's, stiffer valve springs, and some bottem end work does not hurt.. also unless you have a cam ment to run that high you are not making any power up there..

what happens is you get whats called valve float, and mister valve head ends up butting heads with the face of mister piston.. mister piston always wins but gets mangled and the valve head typically snapps

sounds good but lets hear some runs in it. run it 1st through 4th, also becareful revving it nonstop like you did.. with out the revv limiter cuz the cdi removes that.. you could be spinning that top end faster then what it can handle..

like in a car when you want to run past the stock redline, you have to do strong valve's, stiffer valve springs, and some bottem end work does not hurt.. also unless you have a cam ment to run that high you are not making any power up there..

what happens is you get whats called valve float, and mister valve head ends up butting heads with the face of mister piston.. mister piston always wins but gets mangled and the valve head typically snapps

lol even with the race cdi u have a cut off. you can hear the cut off on the video.

It sounds like it time to increase the main jet, flames out of the exhuast may look cool but that's a tell tale sign of being too lean, also when you rev it up you can hear it breaking up at higher rpms, it needs more fuel on the top end, other than that, cool vid and nice editing.

well i wont be rejeting my carb any time soon because if all goes well i am getting a 250cc 30mm gy6 carb and a 250cc engine. and ya at high rpm it is missing a bit but when i pull out my spark plug it looks perfect. it is a lite brown tan.

well whatever you do, dont touch the needle.. my issues after the exhaust in still was cuz i raised the needle up one notch.. now it runs perfect since putting it back to center.. but am going to throw in the 90 jet and see if i can squeeze a little more power out of it, cuz right now it has the 92.5 jet in it..

btw you should go ahead and jet it, cuz if you dont get the motor you wouldnt want this one to blow on you... also you might have to go rejet the new motor neways and your going to want good air fuel ratio's during the break in period..

mizke
08-15-2010, 03:38 PM
idk about your frame, but mine is pretty strong, also the welds are good..

i found a trx450r motor on ebay for 1700.. its missing the clutch and stator, carb, exhuast.. and it looks clean as hell.. if i had the money to burn i would buy it..

100% agreed, i washed mine a few weeks back and now i'am spotting lots of rust at most of the joints on the frame which tells me there's lots of incomplete welds or cracks there.

that sucks guys, i only get rust on my exhaust, and bolts..

my atv stays outside under a tree with a cover.. no rust on the frame.. all my frame welds look nice and good, no complaints there.. even my dad who has built him self 2 sand rails from paper plans only even said the frame welds look good, but my brother n law's welds on the exhuast look like shit

ya me too so this winter i will be sanding and repaint it and if i have too even some re welds i will. i will also a sealer over the paint too. i was also thing of filling the frame with foaming urethane but that might be a bit to extreme

hey dude if you are wanting to run a honda swingarm..

try and find pictures of the new limited edition gio beast.. if you go to giobikes.com and then go to atv's and click on the 2010 gi beast limited edition.. you can see in the pictures and they state " a new honda style rear axle".. it is a exact copy of a honda rear axle and the part of the swing arm that attaches to the axle is a honda "style" attachment

The new style swingarm that they use on the T3 and Beast Ltd edition is totally different than ours on a std beast, you'd have to totally redesign the chassis where it bolts on to use it, for the time and effort i would probably sell my beast and start over with a T3.

i see, i couldnt mind any pics of where it mounts..

plus the t3 frame looks super weak in front of the motor..

but if some one has a t3 atleast they could run a honda rear axle

mid 90's warrior swingarms looks like they would work for where the axle bolts on with minor mods..

but as to where it bolts to the frame i dont see it working.. but i need to see one up close in person while being able to look at my quad to.. but you could always buy a used one and see if it will work and what mods needs to be done to it.. if it cant work just turn around and sell it

I'm curious to see if there will be a performance increase over the GY6 carb you have already. I wonder how big is too big for these engines.
