I buyed a Dual exhaust from Gio, it was for a project so i had to cut it anyway but i found something some of you would like to see.

The size of this hole is only 3/8" :p If you lost power with this exhaust now you know why.

So with the dual exhaust is one pipe straight through and the other one connected via that little hole?

no the 2 pipe are connected trough this hole.
The one on the pics could be bored but mine was welded so you couldn't know unless you cut it like i did.

I just measured mine and the hole is 29/64" (.453"), what seems to be the problem with that ? While it will provide some backpressure i don't think that it too restrictive.
Here's the way i see it ( i may be wrong, please explain it if i'am ), this exhaust is going on a 110cc mini atv and the restriction is .453", does this mean on a car with a 5.0L engine a muffler with just over 3" ID is junk ?

5000/110=45.45 so the 110cc pipe has a restictive hole of .453" which works out to .1612 sq/in if area, so the 5.0L would need a restrictive area of 7.32 sq/in to be considered junk which is just over 3" ID.

So would that mean that all the exhuast here are junk http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopdisplayproducts.asp because they have 2.5" and 3.0" mufflers?.

Hey WayneV,

That was very mathematical and informative. I do believe the original poster was meaning the small little hole at the bottom. I believe the pipe ID is probably closer to your math at .453.

The inside hole is less than 3/8 of an inch, or .375.(As the poster claims) How would that affect your conclusions/math then? ...since to hell if I'm working it out on my own. :)

That's funny (unless you're the recipient, then it's not so funny).

I can see what happened. They lined up the incoming pipe with the dual pipe, drilled a hole in it with whatever was laying around and welded it up. It sure looks restrictive to me, and I'd hog it out.

TurboT, do you have this setup on your daughter's quads?

I more than likely do. As mentioned I didn't find any noticeable improvement, and thought the upgrade was more cosmetic than anything. Let's be honest, does a 110cc motor even need dual exhaust in the first place? It seems overkill to me originally, so what is the bigger barrel going to do?

On another note, my headpipe came as a one piece, so in order for me to check to see if it has a 1/8" drill hole in it, (:)) I'd have to cut the thing off and see..I'm not sure I'm all that motivated.

(WayneV) : I wasn't meaning to beat you up in my post, I thought perhaps you missed the smaller hole in the bottom, and felt bad you did all that darn math because of it. >:)

That's OK T, i was talking about the small hole at the bottom, i have the same dual exhaust and the hole actually measures 29/64 the pipe ID is 1" and the final tube that goes to the two mufflers is 7/8" ID.

And for those of you that have a beast with a monster muffler on it will know it's a high flow compared to the stock muffler and guess what that plate on the back with the 15 holes add up to .28 sq/in on a 200cc engine which means that .453" hole on that 110 exhaust comes out to .16 sq/in.

So 200cc mufflers restriction is .28sq/in and the 110 is .16 sq/in, see the pattern ?

If the hole was actually 3/8" on his exhaust then the restriction would be .11 sq/in which really isn't that bad.

See T my small hole looks the same as the OP ( ohhhh, that doesn't sound good )

Beautiful. :)

I still stand by my original thought the dual exhaust is overkill. :)

Most of the exhaust flow comes out the one side on mine as it is.

I say bring it over, and we'll chop it and re-weld the pipe. There's horsepower hiding in there!

Yes and my 7 year old is just so eager to get that extra .12% out of it. :)

..wait, she's still less than half on the throttle limiter. 8O

I may just rip it all off like mentioned in the ATV forum on sickofit's post, apparently I had the wrong parts! Getting close to spring, (almost feels like it now) have to get the little buggers up and going again soon.
